MOUNTVILLE, GA (WTVM) - Some families in LaGrange are spending their Memorial Day picking up debris from five Monday morning house fires.

The Troup County Sheriff's Department is investigating five home arsons that took place all within a few hours of each other in the Mountville area of LaGrange.

The first call came in at 3 a.m. to a home on Hines Road. Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner said, "As the fire department from Hogansville was responding, they saw another house fire on Hogansville-Mountville Road. They stopped to respond to that one. As another fire department came from the other side of town, they saw another house fire in downtown Mountville. Then deputies who were coming to assist found two other houses on fire. So within 45 minutes we found five houses on fire."

Sheriff Donny Turner says the series of events seemed like a bad dream, but he's thankful none of the responders or the residents lost their lives, "We had no injuries. Two people were at this home watching TV, the other two owners were out of town and the other two homes were vacant."

But now the biggest question is how did someone get to all these houses so quickly and what did they use to start the early morning fires?

Sheriff Turner told News Leader Nine, "The canine dogs are here from the state. One dog found some fluids so they've alerted on that and they're looking to see now what the fluid is and what type it will be classified as."

Officials added each of the homes is within a five minute drive from the other and in this close-knit community, they are hoping someone saw something that will bring this case to a close.

"They'll give us up to $10,000 if we can get an arrest and a conviction. Our local Crime Stoppers, the Troup County Crime Stoppers, has offered $1,000 per house so it'll be $5,000," said Turner.

A reward is being offered for anyone with any information, all you have to do is call the arson hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
