FCSO: Infant drowned when woman fell asleep in tub

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 27-year-old woman has been arrested by Florence County deputies after allegedly falling asleep in the bathtub with her baby Tuesday.

Capt. Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said arrest warrants for Raquel Y. Coker of Florence indicated Coker fell asleep in a bathtub with her five-month-old baby while she was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The infant drowned as a result.

According to Nunn, Coker has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of her child.

Further details have not been released at this time. Officials say Coker has been released from jail as of Friday morning.

The drug abuse is already doing a number on her looks. She could have been hot for a long time.

As far as the baby, it's tragic. But if a woman who was drug- and alcohol-free had done exactly the same thing, there probably wouldn't be a much outrage and there'd be more "man, that sucks, she's going to have to live with that for the rest of her life. Prayers for both of them."
