My wife & I go a few time each week to a local bar/restaurant that we've been going to for many years. With my meal, I have a couple of Scotches which usually cost $8.50 each.
Tonight they were $12.00 each, about 40% more. Is this a Trump tariff effect, or what?
Switch to bourbon. No tariffs on goods from Kentucky and it’s better to boot.
Win / win.

What kind of scotch and you should have asked the bartender why the big increase, I mean it's not just a $1

So now you have to eat and drink according to tariffs? That's insane.

Doubtful the bar has had to buy tariffed liquor yet, but is charging so when they do. AKA all gas stations when oil prices increase.

I agree. Some excellent single malts distilled here.

Plus, really. Any Scotch from a bar @ $8.50 has to be middle shelf-Maybe JW Red.

liquor tariff's are only supposed to be either 10 or 25%, sounds like the restaurant is gouging their customers
Dang it folks, if you don't have at least 30 handles of vodka in your basement already , you are slackers as far as peppers go.

In SC we have an insurance issue the state imposed on places that serve liquor. SO, the increase is definitely not tariffs, yet.
Many people are saying stuff is increased due to tariffs, and I am betting they cant prove it, if asked.

AI Overview
No, 25% U.S. tariffs on Single Malt Scotch are not in place yet in 2025. However, they are scheduled to be reinstated in June 2026 if an agreement is not reached beforehand. Currently, the 25% tariff is not in effect, but the possibility of its return is a concern for the Scotch whisky industry, particularly regarding its impact on the hospitality sector.

I don’t think it’s just tariffs, liquor prices have been creeping up across the board. Could be a mix of inflation, supply chain stuff, or just the place adjusting prices to keep up with costs.

I don't like booze enough to spend $17.00 on two drinks.

Same here.
Beer prices at the local car show remain same as last year.
Increase that price, and there will be riots. Flying walkers, canes, and collapsable lawn chairs with umbrellas will be flying.

While at the time, I had feelings of having wasted money, I am glad I got all the Chinese crap I bought before the tariffs. Now I'm riding the ride watching everyone scream that the sky is falling.
On a side note, if the liberal judges were to suddenly climb on the same plane and plunge into the ocean, I wonder if I'd have even the slightest bit of sympathy?
