Kind of interesting, a current defensive lineman for the Patriots is moving in around the corner. He's a local talent and bought his parents a home down the street last year, guess he wants to stay close off season.

I dealt with some of that in the Bay Area. It never seems to end well. Because the money and fame happen overnight, and that almost never makes the person financially savvy. They usually end up divorced and bankrupt. I give it 3 to 5 years max.

Meh, I lived next door to a townhouse owned by Congresswoman Corinne Brown (convicted of fraud eventually) in Wash DC....she was never there, nearly always empty except when the daughter had friends over. You may never see the guy.

When we lived down at the beach there were celebs about.
Had a country music singer next door at one home.

Country music singer isn’t as likely to go on a coke binge and beat the hell out of his wife on the front lawn though.

We lived in the Nashville area for a year on a temporary assignment, so we didn't buy a home, instead we leased a very nice condo in the Cool Springs/Brentwood area. Had a good number of country music folks in the area around us. These gals from Utah were one building over and taught my son's Sunday School class. He was a senior and high school, and we never had any trouble getting him to church. :D

Barry Sanders a local product, bought a home about 2 blocks away from us.............the night he moved in, the local high school students were out in the back yard, rehearsing some slavery themed play and were dressed in KKK attire......................true story.....he is cool, and laughed it off, but quite awkward................

Yup

From what I've read about him he's very involved with the Mormon Church, so the only you kight need to be concerned about is him having 6 wives. I'm pretty sure that's legal in ASSachusetts. I'm guessing you don't live in the "'hood"!

With people named Khyiris Tonga moving in, if he didn't, he sure does now.

Carlton Fisk lived 5 blocks away from me in the early 70's. I had a 50 gallon aquarium that was custom built for Carl Yastrzemski.

Back in the '90's, Redskin Park was in an industrial park just off of 28. My wife worked at Zenith a few buildings down from it. It wasn't unusual to run into Redskins at the local deli. Not sure why the hero worship when most of them are illiterate felons. Perhaps if we had been Redskin fans it would have been different. :island14:

I see a celeb, even a local one, I basically ignore.

I will note, as a young carpenter I worked on Cal Ripken Jr's new home. I have to say it was a great experience for a 20-something Oriole fan. His then wife Kelly would bring us coffee and doughnuts. Cal was larger than life in person (he's a big dude) and very humble and gracious.

Didn't he have some sort of record for consecutive games played?

Yep. 2632 consecutive games. A record that will stand forever.

He also holds the record for most seasons with the same team, 16 years with the orioles.

He truly is a hometown hero and legend. And he has given back to his small community of Aberdeen, MD. (My sister lives there) Built a sports complex and ball fields etc. for the kids.

Haven't been a baseball fan since the Pirates WAY back, but Ripken was/is a legend and a self-deprecating, humble guy....unlike the f*cktards of today with their flamboyant, juvenile bullsh!t.

We were HUGE orioles fans back in the day. My parents would pull us out of school for opening day every year. I was at so many games at the old Memorial Stadium I could not count.

And yeah Ripken is a class act. :yesnod:

He’s also developed a ball park and sports complex in the Smokie Mountains near Gatlinburg. I think they take under privileged kids there to play ball and experience something that they otherwise wouldn’t.

Not even the record for the Orioles.

The record for most seasons with one MLB team is shared by Brooks Robinson and Carl Yastrzemski, each playing 23 seasons. Robinson played his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles from 1955-1977, and Yastrzemski played his entire career with the Boston Red Sox from 1961-1983.

Cal Ripken Jr. played in Major League Baseball from 1981 to 2001, spanning 21 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.

Henry Jordan lived in my hometown. I got to visit his house and his wife let us try on the Super Bowl rings and check out how big his cleats were. The outstanding athlete at my HS still gets the Henry Jordan award.

They still practice there. And yes, very common to run into them in these parts. :yesnod:

I will say that the ones I worked for had nice families and were no felons :Jeff '79: not a football star worshipper by any stretch (though I do follow the game some) but they paid and treated me well, so I’m good with that :seasix:

Have a signed football, cards, etc stored in my home office…but have never been to a game

I’ve met ONE celebrity my entire life. Cheryl Tiegs. We were waiting for the valet outside the St. Paul Hotel. Swear to God I had NO idea who she was until about 10 minutes into the conversation.

There are some humble, beneficent, charitable celebrities Keanu Reeves, Danny Thomas, Paul Newman and some others. I feel they are becoming fewer and fewer though...

Now we have Katy Perry shitting out $28 million for an 11 minute theme park ride...
