Obvious, isn't it? These are made by rolling up corrugated material and glue is only going to be on the one side holding it together

They have to cement the filter components together somehow...

Then there are those damned aftermarket Chinese flux capacitors, some of the worst knock-offs have been pulled off the shelves though:

It looks like it works like a DPF.

Regarding K&N filters and oil, if your MAF is covered with red oil, you sprayed too much oil. IF you think you sprayed too much oil, hit it with the air gun, put it under direct sun for a day and hit it again with air.

Just don’t go crazy with the oil, a light coating then clean up any excess and they’ve always worked fine for me. Get the thing dripping wet with oil and I’m sure it can cause sensor issues.
