Goodyear has always had an excellent product.
I haven't cared for Michelins for the past 30 years. They dry rot faster than any other tire.

Considering the dems want the rich to pay their fair share, they think it's acceptable for America to pay every other country a tariff but not for ourselves. These are the same "experts" that said the economy would crash if Trump won in 2016, they were 100% wrong in all of their predictions.
Interesting how it's ok for others to take advantage of the USA but when there's someone putting us first, the dems are the first to cry the economy is going to crash.
Clearly you missed a great opportunity to educate your "friend"

Most friends we have are over 50yo now, so they've all learned a lesson NOT to vote commie any longer. Even a lifelong union electrician friend I've had since childhood voted for Trump the last two times. Which was surprising.
I believe the only dem voter I know very well, is my sister in-law.
Anyone not seeing reality, simply doesn't want to.
Goodyear has always had an excellent product.

I believe over at "that other place," people used to bitch all the time about new Vettes coming with Goodyear "run craps."
Never had any myself, only Mishies.

I would have told the friend that I would gladly pay a few percent more for tires if it helps bring companies and jobs back to America.

Last hiking boots I bought, Keens, I had the option of made in USA. The price was $200 vs. $100. I bought the US made, figuring they are likely to outlast me.

The Goodyear EMT's that came on the C5 and C6 were indeed crap. Michelins were a huge improvement in every way. Recently Goodyear has FINALLY released a competitive tire in the Super Car 3 and SC3R.

If your genetics are anything like your stubbornness, the only thing that will outlast you are the pyramids of Egypt and the cockroaches. :cert:

Most of my in-laws are Dems and I've known 'em for going on 60 years. I'd rather just not talk politics than destroy a lifetime relationship. Once in a while they say something stupid and we get into it a bit but both sides know when to back off...
They are all emotionally motivated and apply zero logic to their beliefs...and they are all struggling with finances in their dotage...and can't figure out why.

Wait! What?
I thought the government was there to catch me.
Dang.

Down in the Piedmont I would occasionally see small German cockroaches in my exterior wood storage shed. Here in the mountains I've never seen one.

Well of course it is !
In some of my relatives defense, they were Dems decades ago back when it was the 'workers party' and not rife with elitist radicals and socialists like we've never seen before... The worm has turned and they don't see it or, are in denial.

I have not done a whole lot of research but i have noticed many things that are either assumed or say Made in America is true, but they receive materials from overseas for manufacturing which is where the boner comes into play

That's great for the economy but, I wouldn't take Hankooks if they were for free.

Or Goodyear, BFG...
As far as tire OOM, you have to look at the sidewall. There's a lot of cross-company manufacturing and multiple manufacturing plants.

I bought a new '05 CTS-V with the gy runcraps.
The rears were toast at 4K miles.
I went to the stealership to argue they were dead even before a rotation was suggested.
My point was they are hazardous even before anyone would look at the treadwear.
I was told it was solely due to my aggressive driving.
Stealership gm also said SFLO roads were very hot, I asked him for this disclaimer, he shut his pie hole.
I countered BS, as C6s were not having this issue, I stated the weight of the car was a factor, and the factory tire choice was poor.
I was told to leave after six techs joined the service manager ina circle jerk around me.
I wrote GM, got a $1,000 check a few days later.
I mailed a copy of the check to the stealership GM, and reminded him he was a dickhead.
