View Full Version : I try not to hate anyone but ......
My ex-son in law is testing my patience. My daughter put him through college including his MS and PhD in therapy and help him get into his practice and got rewarded by his leaving her and the three kids for a patient.
Fast forward 6 years later, the oldest son is 19 and serving a church mission in Tahiti, the second son is 17 going on 18 and a junior in high school and my granddaughter is 15. Until now custody has been split but she pays for all activities because dad doesn't think he needs to pay, after all he pays child support which mom has let go to keep the peace.
Then today he hits her with a petition to get full custody of the second son because his schedule now allows the time to spend with him, but she can keep their daughter the same.
More turmoil, more angst and legal bills for me on a petition for custody of a kid that will be 18 a couple months after this could actually go before a judge when he can make his own decision.
Give me strength god

The kids are old enough to make decisions-what are their thoughts ? If the 17YO wanted to stay with Mom, couldn't he tell Dad to FO ?

At 17 can't he pick who he wants to go with? Just stall if he will be 18 soon.
It could be a ploy to stop paying support if the kid goes to college.

He could which is why this is all so ridiculous.

Let the grandson make a decision.
Regardless of his decision tell the loser s-i-l he needs to pay 100% tuition, housing, food, car, auto insurance, etc... as that is what ALL dads do.
So what does the boy want? Case closed. :seasix:
The boy wants a relationship with his dad, more than the 50/50 custody in place I suspect. If so, you're 17 and have a car, just tell mom you're going a block away to dad's house.
I just saw the list of legal proceedings that have to take place before this can even go before a judge in November/December and he turns 18 in January. The good thing is we can go after him for legal costs this time.
Now after all these years he wants to use his man card. Dickhead.
Let the grandson make a decision.
Regardless of his decision tell the loser s-i-l he needs to pay 100% tuition, housing, food, car, auto insurance, etc... as that is what ALL dads do.
Agreed, but rather than dad and grandson talking to mom about it, let's file a petition to the court for a formal change so we can all lawyer up.
I also suspect dad wants to keep son #2 from wanting to go on a a church mission like his older brother.

Two sides to every story.
I've seen both sides utilze children as bargaining chips.
Women seem the most heartless between the two as the overwhelming majority of the time;
Divorce:
Women: most concerned with money/support first.
Men: Most concerned with children first.
YMMV.

Totally sympathize, my only child, daughter had to stay stuck in St. Petersburg, FL until our only grandchild (daughter) reached age 18 so the father could have her nearby as part of the divorce settlement. He works the same blue collar job he has for 20 years with a small company whose aging owners could close up tomorrow and he has no higher ambitions while my daughter is now a VP with a large bank.
Granddaughter will be 18 in August and off overseas to college and my daughter is now free to get out of that crummy city. Its been a slog for everybody.

You're not getting it, a 55 year old man without any unique skills working for a 10 man shop where the owners are nearly 70 and are making noises about selling. And this guy has not made any plans if that should happen....
I've watched other people at that age suddenly on the street with their hat in their hand looking for work, competing against kids and foreigners half their age that work for half the money. It never goes well.

You're describing the situation for many people in their 50's. No one wants to hire them when they could hire someone half their age for half the pay, whether it's accounting, plumbing, or some other vocation.

The world needs blue collar workers and just because Frankie’s daughter chose to have a child with one doesn’t necessarily make him the bad guy.
Maybe he’s a loyal employee who likes his job? He’s been there 20 years. I thought that was a good thing.

Easier said than done, another case in point. When they divorced my daughter got the house in the agreement. At the time there was an open and unused HELOC on the house and rather than pay to close it she left it open as I would have as well. The agreement stated that after 15 years she had to pay $40K for his share of the equity which was locked in at that time.
So how did he get the money to expand his practice? He went behind her back and took it from the unused HELOC on HER home that he was no longer on the deed to without saying anything. His name was still on the HELOC so the bank let it go. I spoke to the County Att General and the fraud department for the bank without giving names and both agreed that the county would file charges, and the bank would file suit for return of the funds. The only reason my daughter would not proceed was for the kids' sake, didn't want that to be part of their lives. I would have thrown his butt in jail.
In the end she refinanced the house and took his share to pay off the HELOC and ended up with a sub 3% loan, so it worked out I guess.
So yes, sometimes I am bit judgmental.
And to think he passed an ethics exam to get his license. :wow:
Oh yeah, u mad. :Jeff '79:

Disappointed in my daughter ? Sounds like projection to me....I couldn't be more proud....a failed marriage that she tried to make work for 10 years ? Proud of that too.
You really are one dumb mutha....and that insult is over the line.
I WAS a blue collar worker - for many years....journeyman avionics tech. But I always had a plan in case I got injured too badly to work, the organization let me go or I got too old to still do it. And it wasn't meager social security.
This is how my office looked when I started my civilian career after the Army, I spent many a freezing morning laying on the port wing stuffing components in that open compartment shown in the pic aft of the canopy and bent over in the RIO seat wiring avionics - and was proud to do it,
