All inclusive Melia property with an adult side and a family/kids side. All types of restaurants from around the world. Coffee bars and other bars everywhere in all the public areas.
The experience is about the same as the other resort property groups. We've done Barcelo and Palladium in years gone by and there's pluses and minuses to each.
Service is exceptional at this property whether at the beach or pool. The servers will find you and continually follow up to ensure you have everything you need I'd say that this a notch above the others in terms of service.
Here to report that the Melia senoritas are muy bonitas and are everywhere. Whoever does the hiring at the resort, give that guy a medal. There's some great talent around. More so than I remember from other resorts.
Anyhow.. open bar 24/7

My wife and I really liked this all-inclusive in Negril and went many times. We would go down for Christmas and stay until after New Years. Adults only - no damn kids. Always had a great time. Food was fresh and amazing. One year, the red snapper were running just offshore and there was fresh red snapper available at every meal. Always something to do if you felt like it. We stopped going when the scamdemic started and now neither of us feel like dealing with the bullshit to fly.

We stayed at Couples Negril some time ago. It was beautiful, but there is not even a chance that we'd vacation in Mexico again.

Look at the travel advisories for Mexico on the US State Department web site.....all but two of Mexico's "countries" have dire travel warnings, rape, murder, kidnapping, robbery and what-have-you. Cartels left the tourist areas alone for years, not any more though. This country of Mexico has a little less "dire" warnings, still - not interested.

Most of the large scale resorts have an adults exclusive area and restaurants. This one is half half and I never see the brats.
All I see is tons of bikini-clad scenery. Trouble. All of them.

Like Jamaica as well. Have been to Negril and Montego Bay at the Riu complexes. Great times every time.
Snapper is a uuuuge favorite for me as well. It's a fish that's tough to source (fresh) in the northeast so every time away from home somewhere warmer, always trying to seek it out.
I prefer heading to Mexico, though, because I'm slightly/barely fluent in Spanish.

Making a general statement about traveling in the Mexico is just wrong in my opinion.
My situation is somewhat different since I live in a bordering state to Mexico. And it makes a difference as to what you’re looking for with regards to foreign travelled/climate that you’re looking for. I Have been going to Puerto Penasco, which the Americans call Rocky point every year for the last 17 years. It is a tourist town 60 miles south of the border and very little cartel activity. It has a population of roughly 60,000 people. The crime/murder rate in Phoenix is far greater than it is in the little Mexican town even per capita. There are several high-rise timeshare/resort condos. There are probably 10 different bars that cater to the American tourist as well as at least 50 different Restaurants that also cater to the tourist. It’s only a 5 Hour drive (300 miles) from my home and I’m on the beach on the sea of Cortez. For years I kept a Travel trailer there. The RV park had a storage facility right next to it that I could keep it there for $50 a month and they charged me two dollars to move it from storage to the beach and level it, and two dollars back to storage. The park was right on the beach. I could rent a space one row off the beach for $500 a month and that included electricity and water/sewer. I pulled that RV out during the pandemic and have not taken it back. I used to go down and stay for 30 days at a time. Now I just go down for long weekends and I stay at a hotel that is right next-door to that same Park. It’s $85 a night for a room with two Queen size beds And it has a pool, covered patio on the beach with barbecue grills. It’s nothing fancy but very clean and they have 24 hours security. As long as it is clean, that’s all that matters to me after all, I don’t go there to spend all day in the room. It’s just a place to sleep and shower. Now this is not a tropical paradise by any means, it is desert just like Phoenix. But the weather is cooler. Even in July, August, September, which are the warmest highest humidity months there it’s still basically the same temperature/humidity that it was in the summer months when I lived in Illinois. There are lots of sand dunes all around the area And I trailer my PolarisRZR 900 down and Have a blast with it. For the most part, my flying days are over and I’m not interested in flying further south into Mexico in the more tropical Regions because of the expense as well as the cartel activity there.
So the blood line has it depends on where you live and where you want to travel into Mexico. I have always had a great time there and never had any problems with any cartel or any robbery, etc. I’ve always found the people to be very friendly and helpful and very happy even though most of them live well under my means.

Sorry, I'm not impressed with security guards at some Mexican resort, you can't even trust the real police....and I'm not making a blanket statement, the US State Department pretty much did for 98% of Mexico.
Went to Mexico in '66, '67, '89, 94, and last time was 2004, and things had changed for the much worse. And that was early cartel times.
I would NEVER go back to Mexico. Hawaii is the same cost and far safer, as is Florida or the Caribbean Islands...(except Jamaica, which is a shithole)

As I said earlier, I live close enough to drive and it’s the closest drive to the beach for me that there is. I’ve never had a problem there and I’d certainly not interested in getting on an airplane paying airfare to go somewhere that I can simply drive to and enjoy it as it is.

Roatan is pretty incredible. In the last many years they've learned to cater to the tourist market.
Funny thing, I remembered going to the Naboo restaurant. The Honduristas are even trying to copy high-end American restaurants. Check it out.

All you need to know is that it is safe because guns.
The hired security isn't shooting the tourists. They will shoot anyone else that shoots first and that's about it.

Opposite opinion here. Hawaii is a modern day shot hole. Don't wander too far from a beach resort. It has fallen apart as most dem shitholes do. I won't go back.

He is doing well. He did get PTSD when we were all in the Philippines last summer for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary celebration. I stayed at an AirBnB but he stayed at my inlaws new house, if you ever seen homes in 3rd world countries they are surrounded by walls or high fences, etc. So theirs had a high wall with razor wire on top. They decided to get wasted on Korean rice wine one night, :shots: he flipped out thinking he was back in prison, it was late at night so you can't go walking about, he felt trapped, he got sick, panic attacks. Took the next flight back to the states, missed the party.

yup, he forgot he had a loaded gun in the seat back pocket. I forgot what kind of ammo was in it but that did not help him. It kind of like forgetting you have a baby in the car, it is a brain lapse but it happens. Especially when there are a shit load of warning signs when you approach the border crossing.

For the anti-cruise crowd (and I sympathize and understand) I need to suggest Winstar or Viking.
The smaller ship cruises from the above lines will change your mind about cruises. Less than 200 people means you can get on and off In a.matter of a minute and the personalized service is next level.

That's exactly right. On NJ beaches, if the gang violence doesn't get you, the hypodermic needles washing on shore daily will definitely give you a deadly disease within hours. Everyone needs to stay away, far far away!

Ha! No more Polaroids!
My tastes have been "refined" after high school. I'm more selective now. It's kinda like buying store-made sushi vs. going to a real 5-star sushi joint. When I was 17, I didn't even know what sushi was.. but now? If the ginger is slightly discolored from being a light pale pink, it's been canned and not really real.
So, the follies of a 17 year old were experimental. Those experiments are long gone. But, I tellya, that was a wild ride and wild times back then. Learned a few things. Rode those rides like a bucking bronco for all of 3 minutes at a time . Ha! I look back on that phase and think how lucky I was that I never got caught but goddamn it was incredibly fun!
