Thoughts…..?

Good or not so good….?

For lost items like keys, good.

For businesses to follow around their competitors, not so good.

What brought this on is my exterminator! Our old company sold to another growing firm. The new company is actually better…. Just minutes after our last service by the new company, I get a visit from the first companies representative asking me to return…..

The only way he could have known was to be following the vehicle of our new company!

Hmmmmm! Slick shit

Obviously, the "old company" still had your address and wanted to steal your business back from the "new company". Common underhanded practice to sell a service business and then try to get the old customers back. :yesnod:

EDIT: But...I would tell your new guy what is happening. May be a breach of contract.:yesnod:

Common practice among these "service" companies. They sell off some of their service contracts to folks looking to start a business. There is usually a no compete clause, but...if the customer chooses "on their own" to go back to the old company, nothing the "new" company can do about it.

I've never heard of that. Sounds really dumb, they'd be better off running a promo for new customers rather than trying to buy customers off an existing company...No existing company is going to handover the good customers :island14:

Like I said, it is a pretty common practice. Not all companies will try and steal back customers though. They will do an advertising blitz with "special rates" for new customers. When the get enough new customers to put together a package, they sell it off to an unsuspecting person looking to get into the business or own their own company. The selling company will throw in some of their old customers if in the same contract area, like Rickles. Usually some they dont mind losing for one reason or another. :D

The bad part for the new company owner is that the service contracts he just bought had the "special introductory" prices. He will soon find out he cant afford those prices and will raise his price. Some will be ok with it, others will want to go back to the "old company".

Its a cut throat world out there in the service industry. I know, I owned a pool service company in South Florida for 5 years a long time ago...:yesnod:

As far as how Air Tags work, you can’t “hide” an air tag unless you have an Android phone. If you have an IPhone, it will alert you that an unknown air tag is near you. Of course, if you put one in your vehicle in case it gets stolen, make sure you put it somewhere it can’t be easily removed.

Zeek is nailing it here. The new company is doing a better job.

The old company had a death in the family that lead to a family fight... It was called Father and Sons but ran by the wife and daughters....Both father and wife died, the daughters blew it up. Then one of the girls opened up a new company rehired its old techs. He was the one that followed the new rep. I'm telling you he was tracking them. To coincidental in timing.

Yes, there's a public safety concern regarding strangers using their airtags to track unknowing victims, so Apple was compelled to create an app for Androids as well to detect when an airtag is nearby and following you (such as if there was an airtag in your car and it's not yours).

oy vey,

An AirTag uses Bluetooth technology to help you locate lost items by connecting to nearby Apple devices within the "Find My" network, essentially guiding you back to where the AirTag is located; however, it does not have GPS tracking capabilities, so it relies on the proximity of other Apple devices to pinpoint its location.

OBC is a low-tech dood in a hi-tech world.

BUT, I still have a question that you may have answered.

Cars, like BIG FLEX's get stolen out of driveway, and before the POSs drive off they negate the on-star, lo-jack, gps, etc...

Can you put an air tag in the car, any place a thief would not look, and be able to track??

For the airtag to work it has to be able to be located, so the BT signal has to get out You can have the airtag alert you if it gets out of range, etc.

If any AirTag, AirPods, Find My network accessory, or compatible Bluetooth location-tracking device, separated from its owner, is seen moving with you over time, you'll be notified in one of two ways. These features were created specifically to discourage people from trying to track you without your knowledge.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, Tracking Notifications will send a notification to your Apple device. This feature is available on iOS 14.5 or later, and iPadOS 14.5 or later. To receive alerts, make sure that you:

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and turn Location Services on.

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services. Turn Find My iPhone on.

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services. Turn Significant Locations on to be notified when you arrive at a significant location, such as your home.

Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn on Bluetooth.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Tracking Notifications, then turn on Allow Notifications.

Turn off airplane mode. If your device is in airplane mode, you won't receive tracking notifications.

An AirTag, AirPods Pro 2 charging case, or Find My network accessory that isn't with its owner for a period of time will emit a sound when it's moved.

If you detect an unknown AirTag, set of AirPods, Find My network accessory, or compatible Bluetooth location-tracking device, use the steps below to learn about it, find it, and disable it.

I would think placing one in the bottom portion of the passenger headrest would be a good place. Not something people will notice, and it's level with the glass to help the signal from it travel further.

Plenty of places to hide an airtag. Car thieves may be aware there's one in the car thanks to aforementioned apps but they're quick to ditch it anyway so it's the next guy's problem.

Just make sure you leave yourself a note on where you hid the airtag, because when it comes time to change the battery, you might've forgotten where you hid it in the car.

Okay, so an air tag would work, why are people not using them for car theft deterrance??

Also, at the cost of $20 why not put one in the trunk area AND under the seat and the under side of the hood??

Again a lo-tech dood, but if one gets detected / found by the car thief, the thief may think they are good to go without looking for the other two,,,

I know a guy that had a Gen2 CTS-V stolen a month ago. The shell was found a month later completely stripped.. and I mean completely. The roof had been cut clean off at the A,B and C pillars also.

If you're going to hide an air tag on a car you'd better epoxy it into the trans tunnel and repaint that area to match.

150 OTA channels is not uncommon in big metro areas. :yesnod:

At least for now. Broadcasters are lobbying hard to drop ATSC 1.0 and move to ATSC 3.0 which will allow them to DRM all of their broadcasts and prevent you from decrypting them unless you pay them a monthly subscription.

I could probably get the 150 if i still lived 10 miles from NYC, but a lot of those are very local stations broadcasting on lower power, e.g. maybe a station for Queens, etc.

I get all the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, WB) and their sub stations and MeTV. Along with major PBS STATIONS. A few others have some shows i may watch, but so much content out there for free.

It's good to have the OTA as a backup if my internet goes down. That typically happens during a major storm, e.g if a tree takes down the cable, or power to the neighborhood node goes out, the battery backup last like 5 to 6 hours. After Sandy Comcast stuck a Honda generator up on the pole pedestal to power it .
