View Full Version : Rambo - was he right or wrong?

In the first movie when the Sheriff told him to keep on moving because the town didn’t want vagrants, and Rambo didn’t heed his advice. Did he have a right to make a stand, or should he have taken the prudent decision to keep on moving? His intransigence led to people dying and he ended up busting rocks in a prison yard.
I personally think he acted in a stupid way, what say you?

Agree. People ended up dead just so he could make a point. And in the end, he ends up incarcerated.
Expensive point to make I'd say.
He was morally right. But chose the wrong hill to 'die' on.
Brian Dennehy was a real badass.

Do you remember the movie where he was some nasty town bully living somewhere like Arkansas where people finally had enough and shot him and no one saw anything? He could play the hard ass for sure.

There wouldn't be no trouble except for that king-shit cop! All I wanted was something to eat, but the man kept pushing sir.

In December 1981, John Rambo, a Vietnam War veteran, traveling on foot, arrives in Hope, Washington after discovering an old war buddy died from the effects of Agent Orange. The local sheriff, Will Teasle, assuming Rambo is a drifter, transports him to the outskirts of town, telling him to move on. Rambo reverses course back into town, resulting in his arrest. While being processed at the police station, Rambo becomes defiant and Teasle's deputies, led by the sadistic chief deputy Art Galt, abuse him, triggering flashbacks of the torture which Rambo endured in Vietnam.

Disagree. The sheriff was EXACTLY like the guy who goes home and beats his wife because the meatloaf is burned. "Look what you made me do!" It's the wife's fault, I mean, the guy really had no choice but to beat her, amirite, y'all?
Sheriff really had no choice but to illegally kidnap Rambo, amirite? He certainly couldn't have just driven away and left it at that. He had no choice, just like the guy who came home to burned meatloaf. No choice.
The sheriff violated Rambo's God given, and constitutionally protected rights, made even more egregious by the fact that Rambo was a veteran and war hero.
Beyond that, look how....comfortable the sheriff was in breaking the law. I'm quite sure that wouldn't have been the first time he's committed criminal acts. The sheriff was the proximate cause of everything that happened. He finally messed with a citizen who not only knew his rights, but decided not to just lie back and take it. Sheriff just couldn't leave it alone, and it bit him on the ass.

Jack Starrett who played that tough Sheriff with the deep voice(not Dennehy) that was beating up Rambo, played Gabby Johnson in Blazing Saddles.
Near the beginning of the movie when he was dress up standing on top of a building as a bearded disgusting guy yelling to the towns people "The Sheriff is a N..... and they thought he was saying the Sheriff is near.

Wow. It's clear most of y'all didn't grow up in a small town in the 70's. Our police chief was also a deputy sheriff, Highway Patrol and a State Marshall at the same time. It was better time, regardless if the fact you had no rights. Rather have no rights than 45,000 ass wipes living in the same square miles we had 1400 in then. None of them love bluegrass and invite famous bands to come stay at their homes and play with the locals on Thursday night at The Fin N Feather....

I sided with him.
I thought it was a great movie. I hadn't seen it since the '80s, but caught it on one of the free channels a few months ago and watched it again. Wow, I had forgotten most of it.
The second one was also pretty good, but after that the following ones were dumb.

So, let me get this right, we’re discussing whether a fictional character in a movie was right or wrong?
He was acting, it didn’t really happen.

Hello Mr. Wet Blanket, aka Stever. You do realize this is a forum where people often discuss hypothetical and farcical situations?

Nope, I'm a one of a kind original from the Motor City. Just like Yaddy and GTO, I roll and control shit my own way, regardless of criticism.

(Archie Bunker) Here is where your true Californian native comes out ...Brian Dennehy was a scared little POS that had to justify his hatred for freedom and felt like he could control everyone...from the dog team to the helicopter..to getting the people off the street in the end...He was never in control...the whole point of the movie. They are living up in Charlotte, MI (pronounced SHAR-LOT) with my twin sister. They are tuxedo cat brothers who her family just adopted a few weeks ago.

There is a Charlotte north of Rochester next to Lake Ontario. They pronounce it sha-LOT.
Ten or so miles from me is a nothing-burger, has a mom and pop store, an ice cream shop, and a firehouse, nothing more not even a traffic light.
The place is called Cheshire. But it is pronounced “CHE-shure”, unlike the place in England.

In Broad Daylight, where he played the real life Ken Mc Elroy. It really happened. Very good flick.
