Any way you want to cut it that is divine intervention.....flipping over at what I heard was 500', breaking off a wing, and everybody is alive and just a handful of injuries...
That FOX pilot commentator wasn't very convincing with his assessment IMO but we'll see.
I've flown a gazillion times and always recheck my lap belt prior to landing, not just snug but tight against my pelvis - ya never know
Still counts as an on time flight!

Ride a CH-46 once. Shaking like a terrier with a rat and hydraulic fluid everywhere.
Every landing in a Caribbean Isle is an adventure.Once flying to AVI (American Virgin Island) There was a pop up storm that made us circle. Our pilot told us that if we don’t get clearance in 10 minutes we divert to Puerto Rico. A few seconds after, pilot comes on and says we have a 2 minute window, prepare for landing. The nose pitched down and we fell like a rock with buffeting all the way. Right before we touched down, the wind tilted the aircraft and we had a violent landing. As soon as the plane came to a stop at the gate, the entire aircraft gave the pilot a standing ovation.

I suppose so. I've flown in/out of Toronto many, many times. Not one of my favorite destinations. In over 3 million miles I've never had what I'd call a scary moment or close call. I know most people don't understand statistics, but they prove flying is FAR safer than driving.
Here's a much better video of the crash: https://www.reddit.com/r/Planes/comments/1isb6w7/toronto_crash_close_up_footage_captain_chris_on/

Thanks Steve. Quick perspective it looks to me like they didn’t flare and dipped a wing right at touchdown, the roll was beyond the limit, wing made contact. quite possible LLWS. hope everyone is OK. Tough spot as the FICON may have been around 3-4, def looked like a strong crosswind also.

The snow blowing looks like a near aligned headwind but the wobble on the way down looks likes like some correction efforts. Did the pilot put too much roll or did the left wing suddenly catch too much wind?

At Delta, we've made a commitment to support unconventional landing style approaches....

The info I heard was a crosswind. About 40 degrees from runway heading and around 20G30. Corrections are needed on the large majority of landings. Probably a combination of wind shear and inputs.
Edit: Sounds like runway 23. Wind 27025G35

I heard from some "pilot" on FOX that there was a 70 knot wind and the approach was too slow at 120 knots - but I'm not a pilot...

I’m not a DEI fan but this was Endeaver. Regionals can’t afford to do DEI because of the pilot pool supply vs demand for regionals.

I also didn't see any flare all the way to touchdown....I don't think the approach was slow as one pilot opined...

Approach being slow I think was tied to how descent was too quick. Overestimated the headwind? Looking at it again a quick descent might've crushed that landing gear, then wing touched and as soon as that wing was destroyed the left wing went over. No landing flare makes it look like the pilot misjudged the altitude and explains crushing the landing gear.

And haven't heard much about ground effect turbulence but yeah descent rate was like 1100 ft/sec I heard...

I flew into pearson ONCE, once was enough.
On an air canada flight, from MIA, as we neared for landing the pilot could not get the front landing gear down.
He flew around the airport for an 1+ trying, tower confirmed not down, so he planed for a belly landing.
Damn scary, I was about 20, so I was fearless, but the damn flight attendants screamed during the five minute approach--'HEAD DOWN, TUCK, BRACE YOURSELF'.
As we came in the runway was lined with 30+ fire trucks and emergency vehicles.
I will finish in another post,,,

Tell me about it, even if used in a factitious context, yet is seems that others may get a pass or it goes unnoticed. :island14:
Reason: Continued posting of political statements in OT
-------
Not the first time you’ve ignored the rules. Yes, the term DEI is political and you know that. Two months off this time. You risk being permanently banned if there is a next time.

No link needed. FAR121 requires both crew members to have ATPs, full Types, medicals, consolidate, recurrent, etc. for virtually all aviation ops, being “fully qualified” is a given with exception to a student pilot doing solos.

Been following this story very closely. A lot of speculation, and some weird theories. Fortunately we have the videos and they show a hard landing with no flare. Soon we’ll have the flight data recorder numbers and of course the pilots will be interviewed. In about 10 days we’ll have preliminary info.
