Not the same since my dad can’t make it this year.

I want to love it I really do. But I can’t watch that for hours and hours around and around and around.

It’s a lot like baseball. A lot more interesting when you’re there. I’ve done Daytona 3 times, Richmond once, Delaware 3 times,Phoenix once, and Charlotte Roval once.

Trying to do Poconos and Talledega this year. We RV in the infield on tracks we can. Makes a huge difference.

They should change directions once they get half the laps done to make things more interesting.

It is difficult to be engaged with the sport unless you have an interest in; and an understanding of everything it takes to field a car for a season.
I am a fan of the engineering, fabrication, assembly and repair of the cars themselves.
I also appreciate the huge task of recruiting the driver(s), building a race shop, selecting team members and finding a way to fund it all. Someone once said the way to make a small fortune as a race team owner is to start with a large fortune...
Those who compete at the top levels are all remarkable for their vision, talent and drive. The races are the proving ground for the preparation that precedes them.

Or for even more entertainment, half the racers go counterclockwise, the other half goes clockwise simultaneously

I took my retired Dutch father to a race in Phoenix when he was still living there. It took an hour and a half to park and get to our seats and another hour and a half of pre race activities until the race finally started. After a couple laps my dad said "is that it, that's what we came for?". Needless to say we left early. :D

I get it. I really do. I have watched it in the past. And I respect the process and engineering and the drivers and crew talent.
I just don’t have the time/patience to sit for it.

We’ve been to most tracks over the years. The only one we go to every year is the Bristol night race.

Super speedways are more my thing. Restrictor Plate races are like not being able to touch the quarterback, but I’ll probably watch Daytona if I’m at home kickin’ back

of all the races I've been to, Gatornationals was the best and most exciting. Hell, it's the only one I'll make plans to go to

Its a shame I don't care for it, I'm an hour from Daytona and 2-3 from Sebring. I did a touring lap in my 61 at Sebring and it was thrilling and scary, for anybody watching - boring as paint drying. As to the insider knowledge of what it takes to field a car ?

That doesn't make the end result more exciting for me...

Left lane is for passing only. Should make for an entertaining race.

There’s nothing like being near the starting line when a top fuel dragster launches. I thought my heart was going to stop.

Any row above 15 and you can see the whole Phoenix track. Back in the day, getting in and out was bad. I went a few years back and it's a lot better than it was.

I also went to Daytona, what a trafiic and parking mess that was, and you get to see 1/4 of the race. Spend most of the time watching the huge jumbotron monitors in the infield.

Now, the only NASCAR I watch the entire year are the first and last 25 laps of Daytona and Talladega on TV.

Several, if not all, NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car teams used to test every year in JAN at Moroso/PBIR.
Was crowded, but they allowed all to cram in near the start line, I got within about 50 feet.
Only did it for one race, as the ground shook violently AND pretty sure I lost 20% of my hearing.
They also allowed all to go into the pits, KOOL, every engine gets torn down between runs.
My neighbor kids took pics with John Force and his racers,,, yes, Brittany is HOT!!
Shawn Langdon gave my neighbor's kids each a worn blower belt.
Antron Brown was great, very conversational, awesome personality.

I went three years in a row, great time, they lost the event, not sure where they do it now.

I like both NASCAR and NHRA, but I doubt I would have the same experience at a N-race.

:iagree:

Been there, done that. And it was at that moment, I realized the little yellow earplugs were not nearly enough protection. And we weren't sitting that close to the track, really. Really need shooting ear muffs if I ever decide to do that again.

I'm looking forward to the truck race tonight. Hopefully, it will not be the crashfest it has been over the last few years.
I just completed my annual pilgrimage to Roger's Corvette Center in Maitland. He was light on inventory but is sorting through 12 semi-truck loads of NOS parts. My head almost exploded at the sight. Unfortunately for me, he wants to get rid of the whole lot rather than piecing it off.

As someone who's been to Daytona and Richmond races many times, the original Black Eyed Peas version seems more appropriate:

There is nothing in motor sports like when a T/F dragster goes by. You definitely need real ear protection.
