CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – We have new information about a Chesterfield mom accused of brandishing a gun at her kid's bus stop this morning.
Police say 33 year old Shiquita Reed was defending her daughter who was being teased at Manchester Middle School. Other parents we spoke to say this whole thing could've been handled much differently.
Reed is accused of having a gun in a holster on her waist-band, while at the bus stop. Reed did not answer the door when we went to her house today. She was arrested for bringing a gun near kids waiting to catch the bus.
"Did you bring a gun to the bus stop?" asked NBC 12's Evrod Cassimy.
"Can you get the f*** away from this door?" answered the person behind the door.
"Can you answer our question?" asked Cassimy.
"F*** you!" answered the person. Look get away from this door okay before I call the police on you all!"
Police tell us Reed was defending her child who was being bullied at school. But the students who witnessed the whole thing are labeling her as a bully.
I was kind of scared because I didn't know what she was going to do," said one student.
Parents who live in the neighborhood are angry at the way she allegedly handled the situation.
"She could have found out who the kids were and went up to the school and pulled up with the principal and had the parents come in and talk to them," said one parent.
"She needs to go wherever she came from, she needs to go back home wherever they came from cause we don't do that here!" added another parent, Sheila Fisher.
After school, kids who were on the bus were still talking about what happened this morning. They're all happy things didn't take a turn for the worst.
"You can handle it without doing all that," said student, Victoria Jones. "That's really very juvenile."
"You never know if she can like come out and just start shooting at someone and one of us might get hurt," said student, Angel Huggins.
Reed faces five misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm. Police recovered her weapon but it's unclear if she has any others. She's due back in court Tuesday at 2pm.
