DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 46-year-old woman has been arrested by the Darlington County Sheriff's Office after allegedly robbing and shooting her ex-husband over the weekend.
Capt. Andy Locklair, spokesman for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, said deputies were dispatched to a home along Ousleydale Road in the Hartsville section of Darlington County in reference to a shooting around 11 p.m. Saturday night.
Upon arrival, a male victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm, neck and head. The victim, who was alive and alert despite being shot in the head, was able to tell deputies his ex-wife was the suspect behind the shooting.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned Donna Hinton, 46, of Hartsville was staying with the victim for about a week. The day of the shooting, he told deputies he got out of bed and found Hinton attempting to steal items from a safe.
When confronted, Hinton allegedly took out a small caliber handgun and shot at the victim three times, striking once in the arm, once in the neck and once in the head.
As deputies searched for Hinton, a 911 call led them to Hinton along Misty Lane. Hinton was placed under arrest and the weapon in question was found in her purse, as well as prescription medication belonging to the victim.
Hinton has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and armed robbery. She remains incarcerated at the Darlington County Detention Center.
The condition of the victim has not been released at this time.
