View Full Version : Ya gotta find the bright spots!

I have been battling back issues of substance for about three years. Finally found the culprit, an arachnoid cyst at T2-3 that caused all the lower extremity issues over the last few years. Plan was to have the cyst fenestrated on 12/10 and then get two spots fixed in the L-Spine on 1/23.
I had old bilateral partial thickness tears of both quadriceps tendons from crosstraining for years, repaired on the left. As I was going down the stairs last Tuesday, (1/7) the right quadriceps muscle, recovering still from the first surgery, let the left leg hit the next step harder than indended and completely ruptured the left quadriceps tendon. Of course, your instinct is to try to stop the fall with the right leg, which resulted in rupturing the right tendon too.
Second surgery is now delayed to 3/26 on the back. Quadriceps tendons are set to be repaired tomorrow.
So what, you ask, is the bright spot in all of the above?
Just got a cost estimate from the hospital for Thursday's events. I am gonna reach my out of pocket max this year on 1/16. Yay me! :hurray::hurray:

My brother underwent similar surgery (for the same reason) years ago. He said it changed his life for the better

Wishing you the best. I've been fighting back/nerve issues for the past 5 months, but have had on and off issues since 2000. On a stretching program now with other PT. And of course, Ibuprophin.

Wife just had her 2 eyes done and I just had my 2nd one done....
Good luck with the fix. I am getting a new knee installed early April. Having it done Laterally, less invasive, less pain, faster recovery.

Yeah, good luck. I wish you well as I've never known anyone that's only had one back surgery.

I hear ya, just had surgery this past Fri 1/10 and met my deductible in one fell swoop :Jeff '79: good to go for the rest of the year…
Had to stop the pain meds after just 2 doses, bad reaction/made me very sick (intense itching and nausea)…but now the Enoxaparin is giving me issues (heart beating rapidly, chest tightness, dry cough, no appetite, etc) :ack:
Here’s hoping you fare better! :cert:

Thanks man!:cert:
I feel your pain. L5/S1 fusion 24 years ago. Last year had an issue with L3/4 since April. Had a Nerve Ablasion in November and it was feeling much better for about 3 weeks. Been battling severe pain on the left leg again. I hate to have another fusion but if it fixes the pain, sign me up.
Good luck with your journey to pain free living.

Army operated on my right rotator cuff, slap lesion, and bone decompression in 2007. still can't raise my right arm to shoulder height or higher.
Bright side: I get VA medical for life. It's where us veterans go for a 2nd chance to die for our country.

LOL! I have a little bit of experience. 13 spinal fusion or reconstructive surgeries, along with a spinal nerve stimulator implant and removal. The cost for the "big" surgery and 3-week hospitalization in Jan 16 was $823,000. My out of pocket was $43. I still haven't figured that one out!
Best of luck for a full and speedy recovery Loco_Vette!

I'll be back and good as new, slightly more wear & tear. No fire sales.
