I worked for dad a couple of summers and weekends beginning at 8 years old and saved up for a mini bike.
This showed up on my 12th birthday (mine was black but did have the chrome fenders and tank). Cost more than I saved but dad covered the difference and taught a young boy a valuable lesson.

So more on this story - my dad bought that 66 C20 NEW in 1965 ... kept it up until he died in 1988. I inherited it. I always loved that truck learned to drive in it.

The problem was it spent so many years in the snow and salt - it led a tough life. In the early 2000s it was falling apart - way beyond restoring the frame was SHOT... and my life was busy. I sold it for parts . It tore me up.

In 2004 xmas, my mom was dying of cancer ... her last Christmas before she passed she had this Truck model done up for me. You can imagine my feelings that Christmas.

Wife gave me a 50th birthday surprise party. Lots of old friends I had not seen in many many years.

Another good one was a surprise 16th birthday party. I was brought on stage by a sing-a-long type band and got a pie in the face.

16th birthday my friends mom gave me a long time birthday present .....

My BDay was two weeks ago.
Nothing was planned, as daughters all live out of state, only plan was a brisket dinner with the wifey AND dogs for Saturday night.

So, on Friday night, my BDay was Saturday, wifey was working, by 8 PM I was in garage lifting weights and helping my neighbor solve the world's problems.

Wifey sent me a text at 7:30 PM, said work at hospital was busy, said she would be home late.

Around 9:30 PM she pulled in the drive, AND there was someone in her front passenger seat, it was my oldest daughter, who lives in Austin, she picked her up at the airport,
I was totally surprised, the best gift any father could get, she and her soon-to-be stayed with us for four days, I would take that over any store-bought gift.

As I age I realize most things I want I have already bought, there is no price on family, and no replacements.

Sorry to tarnish my tough dood image,,,

BTW, I held and hugged my daughter for five minutes in the driveway, and damn rain kept hitting my eyes.
