I'm in the process to replace about 40 shingles which are missing tabs due to Hurricane Milton.. While the work isn't difficult, it gets pretty toasty up on the roof and it's already late October.. I can't imagine doing roofing work in the middle of summer. Not sure how the roofers can do this day in and day out.
My roof isn't too steep but always working on an angle isn't fun either.
I'm almost 50% done, 20 of about 40 shingles. Can't wait to be done..

Aren't there enough illegals there to do it for a breakfast burrito or two ?

Go over to you local HD or Lowe’s with a stack of cash, Juan and his compadres will be happy to help for the day.

I'm about half done.. I'll be able to finish it myself.. Total cost $100 for 2 bags of shingles plus a few tubes of sealant.

They're all up here doing roof replacements from hail storms back in May.

Saw one beaner get pulled off the roof across the street from me.
Senior in charge was going to dump the trailer full of ripped off shingles,
pulled out of drive way, hooked compressor hose on trailer, and dragged one dude off roof. Dragged 2 other dudes over ridge of roof, but the screamed
loud enough to stop the driver before they were yanked off. Dude who
got pulled off landed in driveway (feet first luckily), layed on the ground
on the drive for a few minutes, stood up, and got back on the roof.

Freakin mariachi music blaring all day long.

Back in the middle of July, we got grazed by a tornado. We lost a lot of branches and a couple tree tops - took eight pickup truck loads to remove all the debris. But it also took the whole front of the roof off my hay shed. Stripped the purlins right off the rafters and the whole mess flew 150 feet into one of our horse fields.

Took three weeks for the new steel to come in. 26-gauge Master-Rib panels. In the meantime, I had to replace all the purlins. Came time to do the steel and I was up there one day when it was scorching hot. Came down and didn't feel very well. Got a case of heat stroke and it put me down for five days. My wife climbed up a ladder and pointed our Kline infrared thermometer at the surface of the roof and saw 140 degrees. Recovered from the heat stroke and the weather cooled down enough for me to finish. All in all, it cost me $1,900 to replace the 40 feet of roof and ridge vent. The stock trailer was being used as a scaffold.

Yes, my designated illegal from Mexico is renailing up some soffit, replacing about a dozen shingles, sealing around some vents, cleaning dryer vent from outside, for $500.

For better or worse, he says he's voting for Trump (?!?) and did not come here just to have the US turn into Mexico.

Had my roof done last year, owner was an acquaintance.
He explained for every two hours on the roof, his crew needed at least 30 minutes for hydration and siestas.

I had no problem with this, as they worked past dark and a half-crew showed up on Saturday.

I tried roofing for a few weeks one summer while in college, reinforced why I was going to college.

Lost shingles on my boat house in IRMA, gentle slope and step ladder accessible and I had spares of the original style on the house....

But yeah summer roof work is brutal..

Pretty confident that I have nailed down more roofing shingles than everyone on this forum combined…X2.
And I’m talking hand drive roofing nails not the pneumatic coil nailers used today.
In the heat. In the cold. Peacetime and wartime.
I remember shoveling snow off of roofs so we could shingle.
I also remember humping shingles up the ladder on my shoulders. And yes in my youth I could carry two bundles at a time.
That was then.
Now I rarely even go up on a roof. Admittedly older and not as much dexterity.
I actually enjoyed every minute of it. My body questions my ambition.

Definitely a tough job being a roofer.. I can see the need for longer breaks every 2 hours.. It's crazy hot and tiring up on the roof..

I don't have a nail gun.. I'm nailing the shingles back down manually with a hammer.
