I'm looking for one that vacuums and is self cleaning. The big thing is I need an anti-fall feature because my living room is sunk about 4" below the main floor for the rest of the house. The Sharkvac robot I have falls off this ledge even with the magnetic boundary strips, so I'd keep it just for this section.
I don't want to have to pay the maid every week nor want her in my house. Why? The better they look they more they cost in the long run.
Anyway, what ya'll got? I was looking at this one:

My sister (I was cursed with two) gave us one a couple of years ago. Still haven't taken it out of the box.

I had an iRobot, it sucked, and not in the way a vacuum should. I'm happier with the Bissell that I have now. Still an imperfect technology but it does pick up a good amount of dog hair for me.

Does it scan for ledges or will it try to jump off like a lemming?

Same but I paid damn near $500 for my iRobot. Damn thing did a horrible job on our hardwood floors and one of the cats loved to bat it when it was parked in the charger, which made it start running. Lots of fun at 3 am.
Now it collects dust in the closet

I know mine has sensors to detect ledges. I've never had to test it's effectiveness.
Have an Irobot Roomba and it’s excellent. We also have a Bissell robot that has a small tank for cleaner and can scrub as well as vacuum.

Was the living room built with a sunken floor? or did it just sink?

We have two Roombas. First one I bought probably 5-6 years ago is still working fine. Use it in our finished basement now. Bought another this year to do our main floor. If you have dogs they are a must have imo. Fantastic at picking up pet hair on hardwood floors. Wouldn’t really recommend them if you have wall to wall carpeting. They will work still but it’s more strain on them to complete the job.

I have two neatos and really like them. However, a different company bought them out. That company will only be supporting neato vacuums for 5 years. (4 years, as the buyout was a year ago). So, don’t buy a neato.

I replaced them with two shark robot vacuums. Link below. 60-day capacity. I really like them. I sent my daughter one, as well. She also loves hers.

And one thing to keep in mind is the height under your couch. I didn’t even think about that when ordering them for the first time. :funny: I ended up purchasing furniture legs for all the sofas to raise them up about an inch. 😏

i had two white ferrets 20+ years ago. Fun, but lots of work. God forbid they got loose unsupervised.
Your still going to have to vacuum under things and at corners, so get your lazy ass off the couch.

We have a 2 yr old Roborock which works very well. You can create a no go line the robot won't cross. Does mopping as well as vacuuming and does both very well. Has saved us a ton of work. Self emptying docking station too.

Perfect example of over-hyped tech; I've had two popular models and by the time I prep the environment for their operation I may as well vacuum myself.
Getting extension chords off the floor, blocking the sunken walk in shower entrance so the unit doesn't Evil Knievel into space - a lot of bother.

We have the opposite experience. We have had these robot vacuums for 5+ years and they work great. And we have two Labradors who shed enough to make an indian blanket. :Jeff '79:
My wife has a system and almost everyday two robot vacs are cruising the floors. Hell we gave them names and they are part of the family. :D
Roomba = Gus (Paul Simon nod)
Bissell = Rosie (a Jetsons reference)

What’s going on in your house that requires multiple extension chords on the floor? I don’t have single one that’s exposed the floor anywhere in my house? I guess these vacuums are more for those who have a well organized relatively clean home. They work really well for us.

You guys do know that when Skynet goes active, all those robot vacuums are going to activate at 3:00 am and get you while you are sleeping.

Funny now, not so much at the time, my Bissell was about to get tossed in the trash a few years back. At random times, usually the middle of the night, it would start beeping loudly for no apparent reason. Tech support told me to send it in for service. Instead, I took it apart and ripped the speaker off the board, problem solved. Works fine to this day.

I think we might get a 2nd one ... we have a 2400 sq ft rambler but it has a Lower level too ... another finished 2400 sq ft ... we mostly just live upstairs but like this weekend 3 nieces here ....
our roborock does a great job on the cherrywood floors and the carpet - I have it tied to our home automation system so if it has been 4 days since the living room was vacuumed AND we have left the house - it will run a quick vacuum in that room that gets the most use. Works great - we love it.
