My parents ashes were laid to rest last Friday at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. My dad was a graduate of Boston College High School and had two years of college at Northeastern University towards a B.S. in electrical engineering. He married his childhood sweetheart then enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. Because of his high intelligence he was assigned to teach math to troops in El Paso TX. After serving two years he went to work for military contractors in the Boston area. Then with two children, and soon a third, he continued his education at Northeastern night school, and also drove a taxi on the weekends to make ends meet. He graduated college after ten years. Here he is with my mom, on their wedding day in 1950, both age 20.

Sorry for your loss. I've lost both parents, too. No parents, grandparents.....when you lose the last one it's really a blow. You're truly an orphan in the world.

My Dad's passing was bad, then Mom went and I had this feeling like I was untethered from the world for a while, last living ancestor gone sorta thing. Very strange and unexpected feeling.

I hope you avoid that and RIP to your folks....they sound like the typical, post-war, hard-working ideal of the American family...

My dad passed away earlier this year. My mom died about 14 years prior.

I went through this in 2021 and Frank nailed it. I still feel strange.

RIP Yadkin's folks. Very cool story. My dad, also born in 1930, went to Northwestern as well. He ended up an MD and has been gone since 2009.
