I use milk because it kills the acidity and cools it down enough that I don't need to worry about being burned. Also if not for that I'd get very little Vitamin D in my diet. I drink a few cups black from time to time if run out of milk but try not to make a habit of it.

I'm not too particular but no sugar. That doesn't even taste sweet to me, more like factory made chemicals. About as stupid as cooking pineapple on a pizza, just plain nasty. Add raw pineapple after it's cooked or something, geesh.

Sounds funny but a small amount of baking soda will neutralize many of the acids without screwing up the taste. Darker roasts have less caffeine (bean for bean) and beans grown at higher altitudes and/or high sun will also be more acidic.

Darker the roast, the less the caffeine. Now the darker the brew, that's the buzz bringer. But I do like a good dark roast for flavor.

As a pre-teen I had an electric percolator in my room.
In 6th grade I did an essay on Hills Bros Coffee and got an A. I actually wrote Hills Bros in San Francisco and they sent me all kinds of free stuff including coffee.

In junior high, graduated to Peets coffee, which I had to take the bus to get to, over in Berkeley. I had a one-cup drip coffeemaker I used all the way through school.

These days, for the past 40 years or so, I use an aluminum screw-together Italian hourglass shaped three piece espresso maker that has no disposable parts. I make one 'pot' (about 10 ounces) of espresso each morning, and dilute it with hot water to make it into strong coffee. First two cups in the AM, then the rest gets poured over ice at lunch and I finish it off by 2pm. I go through 10 ounces of Bustello Espresso every two weeks. Total cost is $4.
When I was working, I had to knock it off by noon or I'd be up all night.
Since I retired, I have no trouble falling asleep. Haven't needed Tums, either.

They were spending about $80 per month on coffee while I spent about $6 per month. And I had more than twice the cups....and better coffee.

I usually use Fairlife whole milk for creamer, but would love to use heavy whipping cream if not for the EXTREME fat/calorie content.

Peet's Alma De La Tierra (rarely found anymore outside of K-cups) with heavy whipping cream would be the Ultimate.

I do belong to the Peet's Of The Month Club and usually get 1 or 2 pounds of limited edition roasts each month.

So far I have not sprung for JR Reserve at $28 per half pound. Maybe that I would drink black.

I'd like to get healthier first before I start back. And the withdrawal headaches lasted a full two weeks, I'm leery of putting myself in that position again, although I was drinking a half to a full pot a day. No milk or sugar, though.
