I think an Ask Yadkin / Dear Yaddy personal advice column here has potential.

We'll start with the qualifying statement: "Yadkin is a freshly-minted senior citizen. He's a husband, father, and grandfather with staunch conservative values. I am a member of a Corvette forum where nobody talks about Corvettes. The members--- mostly a bunch of old white conservative guys--- instead like to sit around and insult each other with obscene memes, homosexual IT animations, and toilet jokes. I'm at my wits end trying to sort out the garbage (which is about at a 98% level) from the good stuff. What should I do?

I am a professional writer and sports car aficionado who recently threatened to sue an entire car forum for defamation of my character. (They were making fun of me and not taking me seriously as a professional). I went in search of a reasonably priced lawyer to take my case and was overwhelmingly unsuccessful. I had no real case, and it would cost tens of thousands just to get things on paper.

When I informed the members of the forum that I was suing them, instead of instilling fear and respect, I was roundly laughed at and humiliated. I left in shame and stewed for quite a bit. Weeks later, I re-engaged the forum and told them that I'd put the lawsuit on pause if they behaved themselves. Give them a probationary period to behave and show their sincerity. They laughed even harder at me. I felt so humiliated! I thought bullying them into respecting me would work. Any ideas where I went wrong?

Dear Yaddy,

I'm a 74 year-old retired tool and mold maker living in Upstate NY. I belong to a Corvette forum, and unlike 90% of its members, I actually have a Corvette.
I live an uncomplicated life---now that I've settled into retirement. (It was awkward for the first year or so as I didn't want to stop working but had to for health reasons). I visit friends at the local eatery and spend evenings drinking
delightfully crafted cocktails with my cat and posting Yadkin memes on the forum.
My problem is with some California punk kid who seems to like to encourage trolling on the site. He seems OK sometimes, but other times....Jesus.
Yadkin, how can I disengage from my rage at these punk kid posters on the internet? I need to let this crap go. Any advice appreciated.
