falling on my head like a tragedy...
Wednesday Houston is a highly probable hurricane / tropical storm target once more.
I wonder how my brand new roof will hold up?
Or my new fence?
Or my newly sodded yard?
All of which were done after the last hurricane took its toll on them.

You need to purchase homeowners insurance.
Forecast models show it moving more toward Louisiana..

Yeah, and Beryl was going to go to Corpus. A Magic 8 Ball is better at weather predictions than Houston weather people. :Jeff '79:

First you have Tornadoes and then Hurricanes. I know gas is $2.89 a gallon

I doubt there is such a thing, but if there is, I'm sure it's expensive with a ridiculous deductible.

I'm most likely coming home with a generator tomorrow. Enough of this "no power" bullshit.

Good luck finding one.
It's like insurance. You need to purchase before you actually need to draw on it.

Home Depot shows 58 in stock near me. Worst case, I've already made arrangements to borrow one from my office.

Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct...

It's not just Houston. Everywhere. Used to be able to predict a storm a week out, now, can't predict shit the same day.

NHC shows nothing for tropical storms or hurricanes in the entire Atlantic ocean. Just 3 "disturbances", one off the coast of Mexico that is moving NE at 4 knots.
I'm most likely coming home with a generator tomorrow. Enough of this "no power" bullshit.
Ha! I've been lazy. I got as far as winding up the extension cords, but my generator is still out on the back patio, ready to go. Last go-round, I just gave up on the fridge, as my neighbor offered to let me put my stuff in his fridge, so I was mainly concerned about using the window unit a/c I presciently bought a couple months before, so I wouldn't die from the heat. I survived.
Since then, I bought a second window a/c, and this time I'm not going to give up the fridge, as all I have to do is run the electric cords.
Come at me, tropical storm whatever! This time I intend on retaining my 1st World lifestyle. From Houston's heart, I stab at thee!

My neighbor's mom lived just outside of h-town for 40+ years. same house.
In 2017 Harvey flooded her home, the wait for repairs was too long, family made her sell AS IS, moved her into independent living, she had no ailments.
It was a slow death for her, she missed her home, died four years later.
I blame Harvey,,,
Lesson here, never sell your home or you will die!!

Latest Advisory, only moving 8 mph, could be a flood event for the big zero:

How to prevent a storm from causing a power outage.

In 2005 broward county got hit by Wilma, 80 - 100 mph winds for about five hours, it was supposed to weaken by time in The Everglades after hitting west coast.
It was the real deal, downed trees, pool cages ripped apart, power lines and traffic lights took a beating.
We were without power for five days even though at least two miles to the east all power lines were underground, FPL had huge damage at most transfer stations.
Half my neighbors bought portable generators in the next year, none ever used them for 10+ years, they rotted away, few were aware you need to do maintenance twice a year.
If you buy a generator know the rules, better to splurge and get the big one on the side of the house and pay someone to keep it ready to go.
