So it seems like virtually every time I buy anything in person, the person at the register always asks for my phone number and/or other info to sign up for rewards or whatever marketing crap they are pushing. I'm not a fan of giving out my info for the sake of never-ending junk solicitations, possible identity theft, etc... I don't see how it's worth any incremental "reward". What bugs me is how hard the goon at the register pushes it. I decline and they keep pestering me about it.

What say you? On board with the rewards or F off register goon?

We're in on the Fred Meyer's (Kroger) Rewards program. Good item pricing and we almost always get $1 per gallon off at Shell

If I get immediate discounts at the register, then I will sign up with bogus email and phone number. Other than that, nah. I don't want the non-stop solicitations.

I have a Chase card with Amazon points and that is literally the only worthwhile program I care to belong to.

I memorized a phone number for a cemetery. When asked for my phone number, I gave that one.

No ****ing way. Just more personal details on another computer system, quite apart from all the extra kerfuffle dealing with the "benefits".

I signed up with a fake phone number, no issues. If I forget the card, I usually just ask for a new one each time to get the sale price and never register.

I don't see how it's worth any incremental "reward".

What it buys you is the "privilege" of paying the normal market price for certain items, rather than the ridiculously inflated prices that they put on the shelf to make you think you're getting a good deal. You can get those exact same prices simply by shopping at a store that doesn't play these games.

Also, if you pay by credit card, the stores already have a way to profile you based on your purchases, so the loyalty cards aren't really giving them any new information about you (especially if you fill out the application card with false information or never fill it out at all).

In the overwhelming majority of cases, the cashier will give you the loyalty card along with a little personal info sheet that you're expected to fill out and mail back to them. I never have, and yet all of my loyalty cards still work. ;)

A lot of times the cashier has one handy and will just scan it for you.

You got a problem with saving $1 a gallon on gas?

Heck Ya, it's the commucrat way!

Can save quite a bit every week. In addition, we get targeted with free coupons for things like orange juice, ice cream and stuff we regularly buy.

I hate all that crap and avoid it like the plague. I just wanna pay and GTFO of there.

I'll take every free dime I can get, and my spam filter stops the marketing BS that ensues from signing up...
