I'll try to keep it short. So I went to my native Va last week to visit friends and family and get some vacation in. It was a great trip, and as always, you never make it to see everyone, you just do what you can. I have an Uncle in bad shape in the hospital with pneumonia and heart failure, and my step sister was 2 hours north of where I was in a nursing home with dementia. I saw her last October when she was still at home, and we had a great visit. Dementia was getting worse, but we talked about everything like it was yesterday. So, I prioritize and go spend time with my Uncle, and figured I could go see my stepsister the next trip since other than the dementia, she seemed in ok health. On Friday the 23rd, she just up and died. I found out yesterday. My Uncle is still in the hospital, and doing some better, but he is about to the end of his rope. He shared a room with his wife at the nursing home, and she is deep into dementia. My best buddy from here in town went in for surgery yesterday because he is getting no blood flow to the lower part of his left leg. His veins are so bad in his other leg they were going to borrow from, he is now facing amputation of his left leg because the veins were not going to work. He has been through the ringer with bladder cancer in the past few years, and I wonder how much more he can take. Just a whole lot to think about. I hope everyone enjoys their health, as it sure can take a turn in a second. I want the best for my friends and family, but the reality of it is, that things are not good. It stinks.:sadangel:
Sorry to hear it. We lived in Roanoke for many years, God's country for sure.
Hope your uncle gets to feeling better.

I appreciate it, but he is in his 80's and has pretty much given up. He had a stroke in April of last year, and that is how he ended up in the nursing home with my aunt. Just that time of life. Doesn't make it suck any less though.

Roanoke has really changed. Surrounding areas are still good. I was in Pulaski county for most of my stay. Beautiful there, but Pulaski has been and always will be a dump. David Hagan (Matt Hagan the drag racer's Dad) poured millions into that town just to be run out on a rail. He threw up his hands and said **** it. Made the minor league ball park there one of the nicest in the nation. Backwoods mentality that will always stay backwoods. They don't want anything nice.

Most won't get that, it's kind of between me and you. :D

It's kind of an inside joke between he and I, and maybe the rat.

I encountered that word in a few places during my road trips, and it never failed to make me smile.

Getting old sucks.
Sorry for all you're dealing with.

I have an 82-year-old friend who has been a victim of mail-in check scams twice. When it happened the first time, I told him to stop clicking on ads, but obviously, he didn't listen. I don't think he gaffed me off; he forgot.

I soooo miss rural Chesapeake VA at times, but yeah, my wife's family is closer to me than my own and with us all aging now mid-70s to early-80s and seeing some pass and others physically deteriorating, it sucks, out loud. If you are the healthiest all you can do is comfort and commiserate with the others, and I do.

It does but it beats the alternative.

Damn James, you got your hands full brother. :sadangel:
Life seems to go in waves like that for me. Some weeks/months seem like a new fukked up low I have to figure out.
Then it seems like it passes and really good things come my way again.
Swear I'm being tested sometimes..

I appreciate it Scott. I talked to my buddy yesterday and his leg will be taken below the knee. Poor guy is 6'3 and down to 140 pounds. Probably the closest friend I have in this town at this point. I don't feel good about things. But yeah, life is definitely a test sometimes. At least I'm ok as far as I know. My cousins are completely covered up with their parents in Va, and just looked worn down when I visited my uncle in the hospital last week. Just that time of life unfortunately.:sadangel:
