One of my earliest memories is of my brother, sister, and I riding our "kiddie cars" on the patio of my childhood home, we were like 4, 5, and 6 years old. There was a high school kid mowing our lawn, he ran over an underground bee's nest, and they immediately swarmed right around us kids. HS dude abandoned the mower, scooped all three of us up in his arms, and carried us to the driveway on the other side of the house where the bees abandoned the chase. Us kids got 3-5 stings each, HS dude got 40+, all over his back as he was hunched over carrying us out of there, as well as his arms and legs. IIRC, he got a bit of a tip from my Dad.

The last statement was an understatement, my Dad was known to be a big tipper, and thought the dude's reaction was awesome.

My late neighbor Vic was mowing by his pond and I happened to look that way when he got stung by yellow jackets ( a in ground nest)

I heard a very colorful use of the universal adjective and then Vic came back with a gas can, a couple beers and a cigar.

He filled the hand mower up with gas, started it and put it directly over the ground nest.

For the next 45 minutes or so, he sat on his bench by the pond, drinking his beer and enjoying the cigar while the pissed off bees got "mulched" by the mower blade. :hurray:

I am pretty tolerant of the ugly paper wasp bites I get on occasion out on the pier.
But last summer I got hit by two tiny wasps (no idea what kind) on the hand and neck and I got real queasy and light headed to the point I sat down on the pier steps for a bit. Never had that happen before.

They nested under the decking and I rained fire and brimstone down on the potent little @holes.
