View Full Version : Restored 1969 Comanche Firebird 400
Beautifully restored 1969 Comanche Firebird 400. The Comanche was a dealer car sold exclusively through 3 different Canadian dealers in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa. 1969 Firebirds ordered for the Comanche conversion were loaded with p/s, pdb, rally gauges, mirror group, rear defog, Rally II wheels, remote trunk release, tilt wheel, Custom Trim gold leather interior, Koni shocks, Instant-Aire (tire pump), HD air cleaner, and white vinyl (or convertible) top. The Comanche conversion added fog lamps in the grille, driving lights, chromed hood scoop inserts, Comanche emblems on the hood and trunk lid (replacing the 400 emblems), and Pirelli tires. -

Nice, but then took it to the track?

Very nice, but I still like the SATB one more, with the bird on the hood.

Never heard of this. Thanks.
Canadian built and marketed Pontiacs had Chevrolet engines. This would have been a 396, most likely. An underhood shot would help.

I too had never heard of this. I remember when visiting Canada as a kid on family vacations seeing some odd car models that would have a Chevy front end and a Pontiac rear or vis-versa and some odd names to an Illinois kid like me.

Odd. It has a real Pontiac Ram Air 400 under the hood.
Canadian Pontiacs had names like Beaumont, Acadian, Parisienne. Fords were Meteors, Montcalms, etc. (IIRC)

Kind of kurious......just who forced GM into changing the names of the same cars just for Kanadian sales???
like why bother??? for thousands of miles the two nations had free/unchecked border crossings on a daily basis......wasn't like going into China/etc.....

I used to have a '69 convertible with a 400 and 4-speed. I miss that car.

The cars themselves were weird. Different lights and grilles. The Beaumont was a Chevelle with a Pontiac grille. Weird stuff. But think about it: until about 1981, GM had multiple divisions....and each and every one had its own engine and body design. Very expensive to run a company that way. TONS of tooling involved.
Canada always used to get some weird shit from all the big 3 - like hand me down shit. Bear in mind, in the 60s/70s/80s it was VERY rare to see a european make like BMW or Saab or Ferrari or Fiat etc etc. Canadians were, for the most part, poor in comparison to their neighbors to the south. If someone had a Volvo, they were doing VERY well. So even the Big 3 sent shit up north that would drop the MSRP somewhat for the po Canadians to be able to afford. No shit.

Maybe similar to the Mustang California Special? Not overly popular but I have seen them from time to time in various parts of the country.
Just saw one here last week
