Been sitting on a neighbors driveway for many years. I have no real love for the later 70’s early 80’s but for a song it could be a fun project?
My guess it's a '79, can't say on what I'd might pay

Chrome window trim is a 78, black is a 79 and it looks like it has 79 spoilers. These will never be worth the cost of restoration so it would need to be about $2k in my book.

:iagree: but I wouldn't pay anything for it. The cars weren't that great to begin with and when they're that far gone, they're a nightmare. Never mind the cost, just the mental anguish alone makes it not worth the cost of restoration.

The tires aren't melted into the pavement so I'd do a VGG on it and get it running, $500 worth of tune-up parts and flip it for fun. Would be a great project car for father/son as a first car or a high-schooler's dream.

"Ice juice" and "spark-o-lators" and "wellll.. I dunnoo, but____"
For as much as he portrays a persona of being a redneck mechanic, the guy is brilliant. Some of the things he mentions (subtly) when troubleshooting old car spark and fuel systems is expert level stuff.
His most recent vid is of one of these later C3's with the quadrajunk.

I would not buy it for $1.00. The cost of a mediocre paint job on it would make you upside down on that car.

Meh, just took a drive down and spoke to the owner.
It’s a, one of these days I’ll get her up and running again, stories.
It’s ‘78 L82 automatic Blk/biege. Or should I say Blk(mold)/biege(mold).
Interesting younger guy but a very easy pass. I didn’t even feel it worthy of more pics…..Frontend passenger damage, trans was “rebuilt”, hasn’t run in a decade or more. Water is getting in through the non original mirror tops, the list is long!
Just another old Chevy rotting away on someone’s driveway
If it’s a 78 with that spoiler it’s a pace car edition unless they were added.

I’m no expert on these later C3’s… He said he had a ‘79 parts car years ago so parts may have been swapped/changed/added….etc.
He had an ‘85 Ford F250 that had recently disappeared, same abused condition.
He donated it for charity.
I told him to find a young kid that would bring it back to life.

Yep. Great guy. He recently bought rural property and is doing the homestead thing.
I lost all interest in C3 once they went to the hatch back window. I would charge him to remove it and then I would pull the rear suspension for a future hot rod project and junk the rest.:yesnod:

I like the flat rear window and side “fins”. I believe 1977 was the last year for this. Although I favor the convertible.
Of the plastic bumper C3’s I like the 1974 the best. Cleanest looking bumpers.
The bumpers on the 75 forward have the little bumper addons. Not the end of the world just a preference.

Agreed. While once in a while an 81-82 catches my eye, I get over it quickly.

Well stated. I agree.
Did the bubble read glass ever open hatchback style on the C3?

It was an option in '82

I vaguely remember that. For some reason I was thinking it was the 78 anniversary cars.
Wouldn’t much matter to me because if I ever get another C3 it would be a convertible.

All of my Corvettes have been C3s. One was in about the same shape the one in the OP. I fixed some stuff and got rid of it in a hurry. I had a really low mileage '80. It was a nice car, but you could tell the build quality just wasn't that good. I think if I were to get another, it'd be a chrome bumper or earlier, or a C5 or later.

Yeah, I get that.
Occasionally I’ll see a nice C3 and then I consider the price. And think to myself, WhyTF would I spend that kind of money on that when a modern Vette can be bought for the same or less.
And…
The C7 looks better and better as each year passes.

One long time member of one of my 'vette clubs has a '72 he purchased new. Original paint and everything. This is a pic from about 2 years ago

You'll put more money in that car than it will ever be worth. And the only car it can beat in the 1/4 is a Toyota Prius.

Actually a Prius is sneaky fast. Kicked my but in my 2020 hemi Challenger once for about 200 ft.

This appears to be Pewter Silver. A rare color, I love it!
A very similar color to Steel Cities Grey in ‘70.

It has a greenish tint to it. And now that you mentioned it, I believe that IS Steel Cities Grey

I'm still a sucker for orphans, as my recent posts suggest. If it were local I might stop by now and again.... took me literally 3 years asking to pry my last Triumph Bonneville from the mud in a pole barn. It came out nice though!
Holy **** this is nice

Looks like sitting on dirt which translates to: The Frame is Toast. Also the T-top weatherstrip is most likely rotted out which make the subframe toast. Run Forest, run.

Big POS, the car crusher would reject it!!

Because you could drive it, enjoy it as long as you wanted, and sell it for a profit. Make money instead of losing it.
It's how I've rolled for the past 45 years.
C2's have been appreciating on average of over 10% per year since I started to keep track in 1981. A nice one then was 6k, by 1987 they were twice that, and on and on. When I was looking for one in 2005 nice ones were 40k-ish. Coupes were not worth more than roadsters (except the '63). Since then, coupes have escalated and '63 Split windows have almost tripled in value in the last 9 years.
So, spending 50k on a really cool car, driving it for a few years and selling it for 60-70k is an option. Good luck making money on a C7...it won't be operable in 20 years. It will be a timed-out appliance.
To get that to stock, you'd need $50~$80,000
I'd give $500, and I'd need a barn to turn it into a project.
