So I’m driving along the highway and there are three large 3‘ x 3‘ x 3‘ foot huge packages in my lane. Traffic was swerving, but only a 2 Lane Highway I quickly pulled over ran out into the street and rescued the packages, pulling them Out of the traffic roadway. What to do? So apparently an Amazon truck or delivery truck lost some of the load on the roadway, picked up my phone called 911 decided to wait. Make sure the packages got returned to the driver. Short while passes before the police show up the truck driver shows up , only because when I called in 911 they took my name and phone number. I asked the driver to wait for the police to show up a few minutes later pulled up. I gave the guy the thumbs up to put the stuff back in the truck and off we went !

You know there were several other drivers going around the block trying to come back and steal the boxes. They were all very [mean] people!

I'm sure some underpaid temporary Amazon driver, overwhelmed with Prime Day deliveries, was thrilled to turn around and pick up packages he had lost.

I checked if they were your packages, I would’ve kept them!

We spoke, he was a very nice young man, very grateful and thanked me. It was the cheap ass lock on the back of the truck that was broken.

You wanted the driver to stay for the police? Why? So they can write him a ticket for unsecured load? I think the driver has suffered enough already, as his boss knows what happened. Him staying to get a ticket is really just rubbing salt in a wound.

You did good, I'll admit, saving drivers from accidents, freeing up traffic, and helping people to eventually get the stuff they were having shipped. You helped the driver not have to explain why a whole bunch of his packages just up and vanished like a popcorn fart. Good on you....right up until you asked the driver to wait for the police.

If the police really want to punish this guy with a ticket on top of everything else, they can track him down, although I would hope they would have better things to do with their time.

That is somewhat absurd. When I called 911 they took my name and my phone number. I asked the driver to politely wait. Otherwise I’m sure I would’ve become number one. Suspect if the goods were gone, it was just a few minutes the police never even got out of their cars. There were no crimes no injuries or no damages. Clean old-fashioned good deed

The driver is lucky he drew good cops who did the right thing, realized this was a situation that was already resolved and moved on. As to you being accused of stealing packages, that's somewhat absurd. What kind of thief would call to report their own crime?

But don't let my tangent get us in the weeds....you did a good thing.

My business partner years ago was driving in another state with a spray tank in the back of his truck. Apparently, he and an employee had the tailgate down, went over a bridge, and the tank fell out. At some point, they discovered the problem, went back to find the tank, found the big blue spot where it obviously fell out, but the tank was nowhere to be found.

It had identifying info that could have been used to track us down on it, but, someone picked it up and kept it. I told my business partner consider ourselves lucky that another motorist didn't hit it, and that whoever found it didn't use the state regulator info on the tank to track us down, which certainly would have happened if someone had hit it and it caused damage or injury.

State regulators and police bring problems. I'm happy someone picked it up quickly, saved the motoring public, and didn't cause even more problems for us.

Calling 911 here in CA for a non-emergency like this would get you into trouble and possibly fined. Dumb idea. You should have called the non-emergency number. But I can see why you dialed 911----you feel everything you do is super important and dramatic and requires an action-figure response. :cert:

Got it. You must still live in the USA. Here in CA, 911 means grab your 357.
