Might be worth a bunch, I had my pristine 1961 270hp Corvette at a Disney car show judged by Chip Foose. I parked beside a turd brown AMC Gremlin (even had an 8 track tape player). Guess which car got all the attention ? All in all, a humiliating eperience.

It is an AMC, it is all wheel drive and it is cool as hell. It is also baby turd brown which cancels 85 percent of the cool factor. I vote for $2500 value.

I don't know much about them only that the Eagle shared the same drive train as the early Jeep Cherokees, had a Ford ignition system, and GM steering column/power steering pump. They were a mish mash of parts before AMC went out of business
How much is the owner asking for :island14:

Probably the best looking vehicle AMC ever made
Body and trim parts have to be next to impossible to find for it. I don't think they were ever popular enough to have much of an aftermarket for them. Turd brown makes it all the more cooler.

I thought they were cool when new. I liked the wagon better than the coupe/sedans. I think they had a couple versions that were actually very trail worthy.
I have no idea what they are worth. I imagine a few thousand. Maybe up to 10-15 for some immaculate survivor or restored.

The one I had was a manual transmission which failed with pretty low miles. Transmission guy said it would fail again after rebuilding it.

Strongly disagree. When new, these were used hard and thrown away afterwards. They have beefy, easily serviced mechanicals. And are practical. And can wheel like the Cherokee that came later. I predict these will follow in the footsteps of old Land Cruisers, Hi Lux pickups, CJ's, Bronco's, Toyota pickups, etc. as 'retro cool' 4x4's that will continue to gain in value. My $2500 '83 Toyota 4x4 pickup was worth about $3k ten years ago....and worth about 4 times that now and climbing. I'm betting a clean Eagle will be bringing 30k+ in the next 5-8 years. Look what happened to the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. They went from worthless to over 100k for a restored clean one. People like these cars now for the same reason they liked them then: styling, utility, and simplicity.

I'd say $5-$6k :leaving:
I think it is way cool in an "Oh yeah, I remember my high school days" kind of a way. If it really is rust free, and the mechanicals are in even decent shape, I could see throwing $5K at it, drive it for a while, and see if I could get that $7K.

I understand what you're saying however most of those examples you quoted are body on frame vehicles that make them desirable to serious offroaders.
What makes your Toyota pickup so desirable is the solid front axle versus the newer IFS. Same thing with the older Chevy 4X4 square body trucks.
These AMC cars didn't sell very well at the time because it was a very niche market that nobody wanted and has since then been totally dominated by Subaru.
If someone really wants a car with AWD in this price range I think the better option is to go for a more modern Subaru that still has parts availability and also could be found with a manual transmission to boot.
As far as the future value nobody has a crystal ball so it's anybody's guess but looking at past performance I can see the AMC badge as a detriment. Just look at the current values of muscle car era AMC's versus Ford Chevy Dodge and you can see they bring a fraction of the price for the same model type.

Honestly, I was thinking when you started this thread that you were going to buy it for your own personal enjoyment. Maybe keep it for a while.
But when you mentioned that you wanted to buy it in order to flip it, I’m thinking geez you need to get a car that has a much larger following. Either something that’s extremely practical that you can get for half or less of what it’s actually expected to sell for and quickly because it has plenty of potential buyers lining up to hand you the money in cash. Something like that has a very limited market, I would think. If you wanna buy something to flip, then the fact that she you like it or you don’t like it should have absolutely no bearing on whether you purchase it. Strictly speaking a business purchase should be viewed through strictly business filters in your eyes.
OK so now that that’s out of the way, I think it’s probably worth somewhere around 5K maybe. The A/E guy had a pretty good knock down analysis of what the valuation could look like. So I try to buy it somewhere around 4500. That’s if I wanted it which I really don’t so you should take that for what it’s worth.
I understand what you're saying however most of those examples you quoted are body on frame vehicles that make them desirable to serious offroaders.

All valid points and I agree with you for all of the details you pointed out. That said, look at the AMC based Grand Wagoneers. They are crazy hot, and have been for the past 8 or 10 years. I think the AMC 4x4 wagon has potential value as a collector if it is kept up. I'd rather have it than a Subaru, for sure. (I hate Subarus). We'll have to wait and see.
