As a newcomer I can only say this place is a breath of fresh air, coming from years at CFOT. I find there's so much more scope here, more room to breathe.

It's a bit like my move from what felt an oppressive South coast environment to the wide open spaces here in the North. More FREEDOM.

Yes there are scraps, but so what? If you're not involved just leave it alone. There's a lot more to delve into, if it fits your outlook. If it doesn't, well...:shrug:

I pretty much agree with you on almost all counts. Nothing will change the behavior if nothing changes from the top, that is apparent. As far as CF, there is a much more civil discourse and it's not difficult to post there at all anymore. Maybe some is the moderation or there just are not as many there from the old days that remember me that well. I think the move to keep politics out of OT has made a huge difference there.

What happens with most forums when they shift gears in moderation is usually that one complaint from some person/entity that makes them feel there is a financial risk to the owners and principals. I am confident that happened at CF. It is also a possibility here when some of the the threads turn to hate and racism, like it or not, right or wrong. No one will put themselves at risk so a dozen or so members have a place to act out.

Rob must of had a tipping point, others may as well going forward.

Those critical of political discussion remind me of the folk who don't want to hear about the Covid vaccine "conspiracy", the climate conspiracy, or indeed the Ukraine war conspiracy. In all 3 cases government & media LIE and deceive. This is serious.

I know many people who call all this "conspiracy theory", and are irritated by those who produce information on it. They just want a quiet life. My once best mate, with whom I used to have good times visiting N. Carolina & Tennessee ( we were fans of late 80s-early 90s Country ), and a lot more, no longer talks to me since I alerted him to these issues, and instead sends me music "to soothe your aching brow".

I'll state here categorically, for all those who see just conspiracy theories, we are faciing THE GREATEST EVIL IN THE HISTORY OF THE WEST, and it is very hard to find public spaces where these issues are not being ruthlessly censored, shut down, ridiculed, cancelled.

Given this reality, it is unsurprising that those of us who are awake to this are committed to fight for the Truth to be published, to be made available to others.

In my own small way, I have business cards printed which I hand out to selected people I encounter in cafes, trains, newsstands, or leave on car windshields. Picture enclosed. It is ESSENTIAL that we increase the number of people waking up to the deception in the MSM they trust so deeply.

Been up here since 1985 and last year my driveway after a "end of the world rain" needed 2 deep canals filled in. (About 2' deep and 2' wide by 70')long. Driveway was impossible to use till fixed!

Looks like the potential for a repeat this year. Sure I have had to do some repairs before but last years was above and beyond anything seen up here. That's not only me talking people up here much longer than me agree with that.

Maybe I just don't understand what is going on, but it seems to me like a lot of the problem is political stuff being posted in OT. Some months ago, Rob asked us to put the political stuff in P&R, and several of us complied with his request. There seems to be only 2-5 posters that just can't seem to stop posting political stuff in OT anyway. I don't want to be critical of the moderation staff here, as I think they do a good job, but it seems to me like the mods moving obviously political threads from OT to P&R might give the few non-compliant posters a little nudge to get with the program. I'm not suggesting going on some kind of Cumdawg-like rampage of banning folks talking about playing bridge because they used the words "trump card", just some moving of shit to where it belongs. :shrug:
