And more Pilot Sports are scary expensive. Calling all budget minded autocrossers...
who makes the best "cheap" (like 1/2 Michelin price) performance tire?

Thanks??? I am hoping for responses from actual end users... be they competitors or street drivers who value both performance and thrift. I will never punish my car enough on the street to explore the limits of my current rubber; but I do drive hard, and appreciate a relative deal.

Yeah, but I don't "know" any of those people. Here I at least have several years of exposure to the personalities, foibles and character of those who respond. I guess this is, in a way, me asking you to shut the **** up and go away.

So what is the crowd plow and what exactly are your tire requirements? Let’s not be cute here mister.
I absolutely loved Falken Azenis RT615/RT615K+ for autocross. I ran them on the street on the Porsche for years - including in snow and rain. May want to look at the Falken Azenis RT660, Dunlop Direzza ZIII and Kumho Ecsta V730 too.
If I were to put new tires on the Porsche today, I wouldn't hesitate going back to the RT615K+.

2019 Mustang Ecoboost with the 10 speed auto. Has 2020 GT factory rims with Michelin rubber. Handles great, no complaints except a new set of 4 Pilots will be near 2k with tax, tag and disposal fees. Too rich for my retired self, so here we are. Clear enough for you?

Holy ****, I dropped $1503 on new Continental 21” skins for my Rincoln and I thought that was outrageous.

I have Continental Extremes on my GS and they've been great for even aggressive road driving

Nankang CRS
Bridgestone Potenza RE 71RS
BFGoodrich Rival S 1.5
Falken Azenis RT660
Not only are the prices of the above reasonable, all 4 are considered the best autocross tires on the National Tour. Posted in no particular order. :cert:

615's were a spec tire for the SSC class and were one of the worst tires on the tour. The 660's that replaced them are pretty much the best tire on the Tour now. :yesnod:
Cooper & Falken are 2 low budget Brands that make a surprisingly decent Sport Tire with a decent Compound that Grips at half the Price of a Similar Michelin

He stated "crowd plow." I think you've been here long enough to understand that's a euphemism for Mustang in the car community.

For a crowd plow I'd get rid of tires and get a rubber track conversion.
Something like this;

Yes I realize this but we’re talking reality here, cars and tires have specific sizes you know.

The Conti ExtremeContact tires have worked very well on my C5Z. I had the Pilot Super Sports before that and I like the Contis better for all around use.

I wouldn't recommend 'exploring' the limits of your tires on the street. You driving a mustang?

You're kind of a dick, eh? You've got the right vehicle.

The RT615 were greasy until they got warm. I don’t recall that issue with the RT615K+ compound, but has been a while. I ran them specifically to stay in street category - I wasn’t good enough to reach the limitations of my tires.
Still loved them on the street, even though they are loud. I’d run them again, especially at their prince point. However, OP would be better served taking your advice over mine.

Many years ago when I 'traded' the wife's stone for a CZ, tire expense was no longer a concern.
I have always felt Michelins and Contis were worth the price, and never been wrong.
But I am not a track dood looking to maximize value and performance.
Good Luck!!
I have Continentals on the C5 Z06, they work very well with stock power. I have Nitto 555 G2 on the C5 Vert. They are great street tires and hook really well with the stock LS1 power. I have had 5 or 6 sets on my cars over the years. Love the Michelins, but too pricey as I don't come close to wearing them out in 6 years.

I need to get tires for both of my cars this year, corvette only goes about 3000 miles a year so wondering between softer or harder tires would be better for simply lasting many years since they'll age out before mile out.

I don't track my '09, or drive it much. I'm on my 2nd set of Hankook Ventus V12s on it and I'm pleased with them. I replace them every 5 years regardless of mileage. I've only put 13k miles on it in 8 years.

I had ventus v12s on my first gen CTS-V, they more than proved their cost.
Michelins NEVER get close to the mileage warranty, BUT if you go to the same tire store or dealer, they will process the proration of monies owed to you.

I had Contis on my tuned C6, decent wear and grip for the street, worked for me.

I like to drive my sport car like it was intended, so I buy quality tires. Crazy concepts for the retired driver who is dribbling more than Joe Biden and rarely turns the steering wheel, but hey, more money for Reeboks, right?

Always entertaining to see the threads on CF asking what is 'best' cheap tire.
Same members also ask if they can put 87 in the tank.
I learned over 20 years ago than making cars a passion would not be cheap, you can make many minimal sacrifices / changes to lifestyle to accomodate.
For instance, I fired the house maid, stop having the wifey's relatives over to the house, and went with the one-ply TP.
