Cop pulls over an old man, who has not been drinking.

Cop escalates it far beyond where it should have been, then realizes he's an asshole, and backpedals as fast as possible while still trying to intimidate his victim.

An expired license and no tags. Give him a ticket impound his truck and move on. The video should have been 5 minutes tops.

Correct.
That cop was an asshole. Even the other officers were tight lipped, probably because they recognized it.

But then the asshole cop could not get his daily rocks off bullying an old man.

Well, considering what some folks here think, the cop should have beat the shit out of the old man because the old man annoyed him. That cop ****ed up and he knew it.

He had a valid license, though. IIRC, when you go to another state for a DL, you have to surrender your license from the state you left. There's a DL compact between the states, which is why you can get a ticket in one state and be harassed over it in another state. The guy even looks at the deputy like, "what planet are you from" and tells him he surrendered his FL license when he got the other state license.

I think it just dawned on the deputy that yes indeed, he's threatening a guy for a no D.L. arrest who has a valid license, after arresting a sober guy for DWI. You see him call in the license and they tell him it's valid.

So he's back to what he had to begin with, an expired license plate. Presumably, that couple had owned the truck for a while, so it's not a question of Bonnie and Clyde here driving around a truck with plates registered to the old owner, robbing banks. This is a case of, they didn't pay the license plate tax....on their DISABLED VETERAN license plate.

Here in Texas, DV's don't even pay for their license plate, at least, for the first one. If a DV has more than one vehicle, they pay for the others, just not the first one.

So could the deputy have seized their truck for unpaid license plate tax? I guess he could have done that. Leave an elderly couple, a Vietnam vet standing there on the side of the road. Sure.

I guess he figured maybe he had punished these people enough, so in his largess, he let them go. Maybe the other responding officers (responding to a couple of elderly people not being threatening or violent, btw) said something off camera, like, WTF are you doing here harassing two elderly citizens?

Hey zeek.....you wonder why some folks have an anti-LEO sentiment? Here you go. How do you think this old couple is going to feel from now on? How do you think their kids, their friends, and everyone else they show this to are going to feel?

Our local cops are great, but it's shit like this that makes me check my lights, make sure the tags are always current, I have the insurance cards handy, etc., because I don't want to get stopped by someone like this.

Where are the videos of the millions of encounters with cops that go okay?

Oh, nobody cares about them because they don’t feed the “all cops are bad” story.

Taurus didn't post a video of the police shooting the knife wielding guy who rushed them, but I don't recall anyone having any problems with the actions in that case. So that's one, and the VB cared about that.

Given this guy's demographic, old White guy, veteran....I figured our group could empathize with him, since many Barners are in a similar demographic.

Frankly, I'm surprised the old guy wasn't wearing white New Balance shoes and black socks with jorts.

I stand by what I say about cops. There may be a good one or two, but most just go right along with the tyranny. That makes them just as culbable.

I think the vast majority are good guys trying to do the best in what is usually a no win situation. That said, bad ones need to be called out whenever encountered.

Link to facts or statistics?

Or have you graduated from the GSC3 School of Argument where your opinion is correct just because.

It’s your opinion that police are more corrupt than politicians? Not buying it.

Right on, a whole bunch of yokels on here wouldn't last two days in an LEO job, if the ignorant @holes they encountered didn't have them crying then the stress would.

This is correct, and the reason the cop ****ed up. The cop also said that his FLA license was suspended 11 days AFTER he got his MI license, for a "financial responsibility". The cop was guessing he got his MI license because Wade "knew" he was about to lose his FLA license, but a better guess is Wade didn't pay his license renewal fee to FLA (because he had switched to a MI license), and FLA suspended his FLA license because of the unpaid renewal fee.

That cop is a dumbass.

:iagree: See how easy it is to avoid asshole cops?! Just abide by the law and you wont ever have to deal with one.

Cop was being over zealous, but the old fuk admitted he had been driving on that expired license plat for OVER @ YEARS! That is pretty fukn ignorant and just looking for this kind of interaction.

Keep doing what youre doing Bill and youll be just fine...:yesnod: :D

Also, you are being very over dramadic with this statement: ...."you wonder why some folks have an anti-LEO sentiment? Here you go. How do you think this old couple is going to feel from now on? How do you think their kids, their friends, and everyone else they show this to are going to feel?...." I bet hes gonna feel like...Damn, I guess I had better not let my tag expire again....:funniest:

I have to ask....are you REALLY satisfied with the way that couple were treated? I suspect, had those "backup" officers not been there, this guy would indeed have arrested the old man, taken the truck and left the old lady on the side of the road. You really good with that? I can't believe that.

Is that really the kind of punishment we should be meting out to the elderly, because they didn't move fast enough for our taste? Note the thing that set the guy off was, he asked old guy for the license, insurance, and registration, and when he didn't get that fast enough, it was BAM, out of the car, I want to arrest you for DWI, despite him not smelling of alcohol.

What's bail go for for a DWI that you aren't guilty of? A few thousand? What's a lawyer cost to defend yourself from that charge? $ 5,000+?

What's it going to cost them to get the truck out of the impound yard? $ 500 or so, IF they get it fast enough? How much for the elderly lady to get a cab back to her house? $ 150?

That's all on top of the ticket for expired plates, so figure another couple hundred bucks.

How much do you think that couple should have to pay? How much would you have charged them if that was you that stopped them?

Any compassion for an elderly couple, a disabled vet, or nah? **** 'em. Move faster next time, grandpa, when I tell you to do something. Maybe paying out $ 10,000 will be an attitude adjustment for the old woman and old guy, so they knows who's boss in their last few years of life.

In other news, have you seen the cop rescues dog then adopts dog thread? Weird how that good news thread got no traction here.

Edit: Have you never driven around with an expired tag on one of your project cars? My Vettes don't get driven very often, so sometimes I have to drive with expired tags, just to get them inspected so I can get a current tag.

Should that cost me $ 10,000? Is that the going punishment for an expired tag?

:shudder:

I agree that the cop was being over zealous. But the old fool brought on himself driving with a plate 2 years expired. He was also wrong in the fact that he got a Michigan dl just before his FL dl expired. Probably a snow bird with two addresses so he thought he could outsmart the law by getting the Mich dl just befor his Fl dl was suspended. He was not all mr innocent there...sooo....:slap:
