View Full Version : Impressed by Gen Z tonight

Wife and I were just leaving a Japanese steak house after dinner tonight, and we took the Z. We're parked in the handicap spot, but as I walked out the door of the establishment, I did the remote start to cool the car off.

There was a gaggle (maybe 7 male kids (18-21ish)) and they INSTANTLY knew it was the Z06 and that it was mine, and it was still 100 yards away. Kudos to them for knowing the very unique voice signature of the car, and several compliments from them for my spec. They had clearly admired my car on their way into the property previously.

Not 1 single homeowner, including "car guys" who are friends of mine, have even noticed the new car...some of whom I even drove up next to them on a driveway or sidewalk and had no clue.

Bottom line, tickled that the younger generation knows the sound, adores the car, and can do it blindfolded.

Carry on. :datawiz:

Most adult neighbors in my hood know my vette and caddy, and many younger males do also.
It may have something to do with exhaust noise / note??

Even though it's been 6 years since it was running, the same can be said for my '08 Z06. Very loud, very angry. The '24 is bone stock.

I have a crew of young men doing HVAC rough-in work on the new house. The crew leader is 21 years old and his guys are 16-20 year olds. I'm actually impressed with their skills and work ethic. Of course I have educated them when necessary. :D

Working in the attic in this heat :ack: you need to be a 20-something. :Jeff '79:

This gives me great hope for the future. I'm seeing that this newest generation of youngsters are more motivated and have better ambition than the generation before them.
Anecdotal or course. But factual from my seat. :seasix:

Did you verify the 16-year-old's work permit? Or are those not required for wetback laborers?

No I did not check the 16 y/o permit.
These are all white boys.

Well that young man has picked an excellent summer job/apprenticeship. It's something I would have done at that age had I known then what I know now. :yesnod:

Cars are appliances now, not that many younger people care a lot....
I read the other day that 1/2 the kids that reach the age to get their driver's license don't even bother.

Youngsters are easily impressed by images (shiny mentality). The badging attracts their attention. Older people outgrow that. They generally know it's a Vette but unless I say it's a Z06 most would never know, and they don't care, because they've no idea what that signifies... Until I tell them the top speed, this usually gets their attention

I have a 75 year old sister who has never had a drivers license.

Been a car guy since 1962 and was in the industry for over 40 years. I could not ID any Corvette by year after the c5, except for the C8. The only reason I can identify a C7 (but not the year) is because of the tail lights. The C5 and C6 have huge asses and never appealed to me visually. I realize all are excellent road cars. I CAN tell the difference between cars from 1980 back to 1900.
For the most part, I hate the raspy, obnoxious, LOOK AT ME tone of the new exhaust systems on new performance cars. Sounds like they have burnt valves with all the popping.

I've never met a pot head that was a go-getter.

Funny thing, she's a "hippie" in many ways but she has never smoked pot or done any drugs. I don't believe she has ever drank alcohol either.

She also has never had a job, EVER. Or owned a home, or much of anything else.
Yeah she is definitely a liberal. 10 years my senior and other than the same biological parents we have nothing in common.

And she has never visited us in Florida and I've been down here for 35 years. Of course every time we visited up north we always make a point to see her. Meh.
It's not that we don't get along, we really don't know each other. I'm 100% closer to my step sister, probably because we are closer in age and grew up together.

Got it. I knew the hippie angle, so assumed wrongly that there was pot in the equation.

My older brother and I are nothing alike. Thank God. He has no skills, no work ethic, no sense of responsibility, is a total communist, and at age 65, doesn't have a pot to piss in. And in the last year, came to realize it for the first time. Talk about a harsh reality check. Too late to start now, though.
And Doug is right behind him.

Roll around in a McLaren if you like the attention. Just about everyone young or old seem to appreciate it.

Parked at a local restaurant and a MILF and her two kids scoping it. She seemed to notice the intakes in the doors lol. Not a drive goes by without the cell phones out the window or a head turner or a conversation starter with a stranger. :seasix:

I parked in a corner spot (curb on right) yet old person had to put their Buick or Mercury or whatever old person car next to it. :kick:

That is clearly a Mercury Milan. You need to learn your shitboxes....:D

Seriously though, I like how the MILF and her kids had respect and kept a distance. Too often they are eating fried chicken and getting hand prints all over things.

Thanks! It changes looks in night vs day. Day time from cell phone. Night time from a professional photographer. It's called MSO Ludus Blue.

Exactly agreed! I don't care about the shitboxes

She was likely pointing out the air intakes are hidden in the doors. Here you can see the photo with GSC3's Plaid the door line is clean there's no air intakes visible but if you look head-on from the front there's two massive intakes in the door itself that starts with an aerodynamic curve from the top of the headlight sockets all the way back to the intake.

BTW GrandSportC3's Model X Plaid for size it's huge in comparison...:waiting:

No I'll look it up on YouTube. Actually I just did I think I saw one or two of his videos before I bought it. This guy is funny he is extremely wealthy and has a lot of exotics but great summary (although the maintenance I disagree it's just like any other exotic).
