Woodworking content. Title basically says it all. 12.5" x 6.75" x 3.75". Hand cut dovetails. Removeable tray. Ebony lift. Hinges are machined from solid brass stock. Oil and wax finish. Didn't know there was anything special about the board until I ran it through the planer.

Nice work. I have a similar project in the works, but haven't yet acquired hinges. Do yours have a built-in stop to limit the lid opening angle? If so, where did you buy them?
I want to avoid using a separate lid stay, chain, etc.

Yes, they have a built-in stop at 95 degrees. They are made by Brusso. They come in different sizes - I use the #JB-103. https://www.hardwaresource.com/products/brusso-solid-brass-stop-hinge?variant=46916011163921
Not at all crazy about the price. Pre-scamdemic, you could buy them all day long for about $38 a pair. During the supply chain fiasco, they went up to $42. Now, with runaway inflation, they are running $52/$53.
There is a guy over in England, Andrew Crawford, who has what he calls "Smart Hinges". Very similar to the Brusso, but they have round backs. I believe they are running around 75 pounds a pair. Not sure how that converts to dollars.
Stop hinges are definitely the way to go, particularly if your lid has any heft to it.
Be sure to post up your finished box when you get it all together. :cert:

Pretty much year round. But I build a lot of things. Sometimes I feel like making boxes, so I crank out six or seven until the urge passes.
pretty...... :yesnod: :hurray: :DAB:

Mostly give them away to people as gifts. Or they collect on shelves and bookcases around the house. Making them is just a hobby for me. Just a way of killing time.
Very nice! You have quite a talent! :yesnod:

That cherry wood really puts a beating on any saw blade that touches it!
I have a small wooden box very similar to yours that I build in 5th grade wood shop class. (that was the last year we had shop in elementary school, the shop teacher cut off his fingers in front of our class on the table saw).
Nice real nice!:seasix:

Not at all! I found the cherry to be a pleasant surprise when it came to workability. I'm used to dealing with exotics that are much harder and heavier. Try cutting dovetails in ziricote if you want to dull your tools some time. :willy: Also, bubinga. It's an exotic from central Africa. I actually chipped chisel edges trying to cut dovetails in this stuff. Real pretty and makes for a heavy box, but I'm not looking forward to doing it again. Here's the bubinga box.

You got that right! I will limit my wood work to carpentry repairs at the house!:D
PS real nice Tiki!-:cert:
