Where TF are taco trucks? Never heard of them. Do you mean parked at carnivals, or driving through neighborhoods like ice cream trucks used to do in the 1950s?
I wish. I never see taco trucks around here.

So they drive around neighborhoods?

In Houston they are everywhere.
I'm sure they are held to the strictest of health standards.
No, I don't go to them.

I've always viewed getting food from one of those akin to getting sushi at a gas station

I have had a burger from one food truck, and bbq from another.
Not sure why anyone would opt for a taco when you can have either above, as both times was at an event with 10+ trucks to chose from.
I like tacos, but I prefer BEEF!!

Just had a good truck at a local community festival; sold beef, chicken or pork tacos. They posted a sign stating "don't ask for lettuce, tomatoes or cheese; our tacos are autentico". They were quite good (as was their street corn).

dude, food trucks are the current thang and prevalent In D-Troit. The city supposedly regulates them closely and they are safe to eat.
They park them in primarily Southwest Detroit neighborhoods and slang their food. :shots:
And I occasionally roll up to get with it.

That brought back a memory from the 70s. I was in Mexico buying some tacos with a friend from an old man cooking off a VW hubcap. My friend was inquiring what kind of meat it was just as a three legged dog came running by.

So they drive around neighborhoods?
They usually set up close to a business during lunch. Used to see them before Covid, but I haven't seen them since. Occasionally at one of the local breweries, but they rotate between different vendors, so you never know what roach coach will be there.

Used to be they'd set up in a popular bar parking lot and catch all the people going home and hungry.

There seems to be a Mexican food truck outside most pot shops.
I don't patronize either one. :Jeff '79:

our local taco truck dude just opened his first restaurant, it has been about 6 or 7 different restaurants during my time here, but hope he pulls it off. His taco truck food was pretty good, hopefully it continues!
Taco trucks are ubiquitous in Houston. And thanks to the unfettered opening of our border, they'll soon be ubiquitous wherever it is YOU live.
While Houston does have some of the "foodie" rolling food trucks that hipsters seem to enjoy, most of the "taco trucks" are actually stationary trailers that are situated in gas station parking lots, etc.
I've eaten at quite a few over the decades, and most are pretty decent. If you think about it, if you're selling Mexican food in Houston, or really, anywhere in Texas, your food HAS to be good, just as a baseline minimum, to survive the competition.

Any where from six to ten food truck just a few hundred yards from work...all have pretty much great food...BBQ, Mexican, Thai, Hibachi-style Japanese, Hamburgers and hotdogs. Hamburger trucks missing from the picture for some reason usually two different ones.
Google food trucks near me...you might be suprised...:yesnod:

Not the trucks; I prefer the taco sports cars.

At a gas station, the folks working there have the ability to go to the bathroom in a toilet, and wash their hands afterwards. In a food truck, they don't have the ability to do either. So they pee and poop in a bucket, don't wash their hands, and make your food.
Hard pass. :yesnod:

Not a city guy here, and I don't know anyone who is, so that's why I've never heard of them.
But thanks for explaining it. :)
Petite brunette FTW.
That's who I zeroed in on. The other three are "blah."
But that little brunette has "the look." https://i.ibb.co/HrTf5xv/rub.gif

There was a deer once who wanted to hit mine.
She did, so I murdered her and aborted her baby:

Yup instead they usually offer sliced carrots, beets, cilantro, onions and a pepper or two for side garnishes.

There's a saying in L.A. that goes "the more dangerous the neighborhood, the better the taco's"
In my Hood, Mex Taco Sit Down Joints are Plentiful ~
They All Offer Some sorta low grade pre-grilled skirt steak type beef lunch specials served with rice ~ beans ~ tortillas ~ and chips and salsa for 'bout $10
Me and some Work Folk hit a few up each week ~
The work lunches would be better with Tequila shots ~ but we refrain ~
next town over has a lot of hispanics, so we get a little bleed-over.
I stop when I can.
We had one a few years back that was amazing, they moved.
We had one the last couple years that was really good, they closed (I happened to find their truck parked on an acreage lot a couple weeks ago)
We have one now that is pretty good, but rarely actually open. :kicksrocks:
