View Full Version : Had to call 911 for my neighbor today
We used to talk every other day but he's been returning my calls less and less. Today he finally returned my call, said that he has a virus, and asked me to pick up some things from the supermarket: beer, coke and Gatorade. I told him that I could do that later on tonight- unless he needed it sooner. "I need it ASAP" was his reply.
Along with his request I also picked up some prepared fresh fruit and three different brands of chicken soup.
I had to let myself in. I found him on the floor- he could not get up. Couldn't drink a Gatorade without a straw. The house was a mess. Four empty cases of beer. Best guess is that he'd been on the floor two, maybe three days. Hadn't eaten in four days. Refrigerator and cupboards full of whatever he needed.
I called 911 and admitted him taken to the hospital.

Are they going to detox him? Sounds like someone that needs help
Good job. We found our old neighbor, now deceased, TWICE on the floor, both times we called an ambulance. It's important to check on people, and this guy obviously needs someone looking out for him, so good on you, Yaddie. This is why neighbors give keys to other neighbors, for situations just like this.

Could be suffering from cirrhosis. Either way, it doesn't sound like this guy needs to be drinking anymore.

Did he squawk about calling in an ambulance ride to the hospital ?
Having his phone handy to call you , he could have called 911 anytime on his own .
Sounds like he thought maybe the beer would help him .

That's exactly what he was thinking. Only two beers in the refrigerator out of the four cases that he had already had. Better not run out- could be deadly.
Of course he didn't want to go. 'Too effing bad you're going.'
Once he got there he complained about how much it was costing him. 'You've got Blue Cross, low deductible. $9100 is your max out-of pocket, and the ambulance ride took that out. Everything now is "included", so you're going for the surf-n-turf buffet now.'
Hopefully this is the bottom of his self inflicted trajectory, and he gets, and accepts, help. Eats right, drinks less, exercises, gets back into shape.

You're a good neighbor Yaddie - too many won't get involved or bothered.
I called 911 and admitted him taken to the hospital.
If its available maybe consider "Meals On Wheels"; they are a food delivery service and a wellness check combined. When I was out of town at one point the delivery person found my feeble Dad on the floor and got him help. Like your neighbor he was a tough old nut who thought he could "power through" illness and age-related issues without much help. Not so.
You're a good neighbor Yaddie.

Moving my parents from home to an assisted living place in 2000 was not a problem at all. They knew it was time.
However, my neighbors who are 92 and 96 will not leave home.
One of my buddies is 83, lives alone REALLY back in the woods and cannot move without a walker -- yet never talks about moving out.

I'm glad (and not) that a neighbor decided to call 911 on my mom a few years ago. We (her closest relatives) lived 400 miles away, and I usually called her, or got a call, about once a week. My aunt (her sister) called me one week and said she had tried calling, but got no answer. That wasn't too unusual; she went shopping often and didn't have voicemail or an answering machine. I tried calling a bit later; still no answer, and decided to try again the next day.
Before I could call again, I got a call from the local popo, and of course answered it right away. Seems that a nosy (thankfully) neighbor had noticed that there had been no sign of activity at my mom's place for a few days, so she called them for a wellness check. No answer at the door, so they broke a window to get in. They found her on the floor, nearly unconscious and severely dehydrated, with a broken leg. She had been there for almost 4 days, unable to reach the phone to call for help.
Be glad you checked on your neighbor.

I've been looking into a smart watch that bluetooths to a cell phone. That could be a modern "life alert"?
https://i.imgur.com/TdxCEJD.gif
My late mom had a life alert the last 5 years of her life and it saved her twice. Well worth it. In whatever form. If you fall and break a hip, your passed out neighbor sure as shit isn't coming to your rescue. :seasix:

My mom had refused a life alert several times ("they spy on you"), and never kept her cell phone charged. After the fall & broken leg at home, she had to use a walker and driving privileges were gone, so we finally got her to move into an Independent Living facility which supplied their residents with a life alert-type pendant. A few months later, she fell again, and once again, it was a couple of days before the cleaning crew found her on the floor in the bathroom - Alert pendant was on the table next to the bed. She only survived for a few days after this 2nd fall. :sadangel:
no pictures? It didn't happen. I'd accept just the ambulance

My mom lived in downtown Honolulu, and took the bus everywhere and walked as well. The curbs there are over 100 years old and in many places over 12" high. The times she fell were both out walking.....once off a curb, and once getting off a bus. Life alert had the medics there in a flash both times. My mom was one of the most careful, organized, worrisome, and safety conscious people I have ever known. I got a lot of those qualities, and they have saved me from dumb choices throughout my life many times.

I’d like to go like Emmett Walsh in Yellowstone, in my sleep under an old oak tree on the back of my property.
A neighborhood friend of mine, "Scooter", did just that. He was a big chocolate lab, who was as sweet as pumpkin pie, and loved everyone in the neighborhood! He was 10 years old, and struggling a little with age, but no one thought he was near the end. One fine sunny afternoon about a month ago, he scratched at the door to go out in the back yard, and his Dad opened the door. An hour or so later, when he didn't scratch to come back in, his Dad when out in the yard to see what was up. He had laid down under their big oak tree, and passed away. :sadangel:
Rest in Peace Scooter! You were a good dude!

I have never been admitted to a hospital or taken anywhere by ambulance. I plan to maintain that streak. My first ride will be my last...and they won't need to speed.
Twice for me. 1st time back in the 70's from a motorcycle accident. 2nd time was only about 10 years ago.
Got up about 6am feeling fine. I made something to eat, turned on the tv. From then on, I started having progressive pain all around my chest & back area. First impression was a heart attack.
I fell into the coffee table waking up my wife. I'm clutching my chest and rolling around the floor. The pain was unlike anything I ever had. She calls 911 crying. Dogs are licking my face and want to play
Ambulance shows up and all the numbers are pretty much off the charts. So, by feeling fine at 6am, I was at the hospital by 7:15.
They had me on Morphine all day to ease the pain of my first kidney stone! A month later, I had 2 procedures done to remove some more that were inside both kidneys.
Urologist said he drinks a glass of pure/organic lemonade daily to help prevent this. The pain levels for these can be from near nothing to a ride in an ambulance

And, much of the time, not worth it. :yesnod:
I went to see him this morning and his condition hasn't improved all that much. He eats a few spoonfuls of food, usually the sweet stuff. So nutrition-wise, he's doing the exact opposite of what he should.
His friends from the beach came, stayed two days, then left. They are looking for a rehab place in Wilmington, near them, and since we're predicting that he won't rehabilitate himself, it has to be affiliated with a nursing home. They have his credit cards and checkbook, and he's authorized them verbally (grunts) to pay his bills.
So I'm the caretaker of his house here, probably until he's dead. My prediction is 6 months. I'll shut the water off tomorrow. I'll wait until he's in Wilmington to clear out his refrigerator. At some point I'll rearrange his garage so I can park his cars in there, get them out of the weather at least. The C8 he bought last year has never seen the garage.

He likes to buy things. He bought a greenhouse several months ago, planted a few things in it then let them all die. Same thing for the C8. He left it outside all winter. I've seen him drive it once. It's ridiculous. As a young boy I did shit with classmates and neighbor girls that we all giggled about. Me and them. I lifted skirts, I said dirty things, I chased them around the schoolyard. As a teen I'd convince them to flash me, or worse. I have been at least 5 different people since then so how about STFU Big Bob. I'm sorry your childhood sucked so bad that you have to attack everyone around you out of perpetual unhappiness.
Maybe one day you'll be unconscious on the floor and we'll all have learned your lesson and leave you there.

Big Bob, if you were a Looney Tunes cartoon character, who would you be?
I see you as Foghorn Leghorn. Big, brash, loud, and running around the barnyard.

Who in the right mind would sign an 11% car loan?
I paid him a visit today at the rehab. He's doing his PT and has much improved since I saw him two day's ago. He might even be able to get back into his house in a few more days, if he can find at least a part time nursing service.

I just went for the big ticket items for that deal, otherwise she could have been ripped off.
When my father-in-law died, soon followed by my mother-in-law, they left a house full of furniture, basement stuffed with memorabilia mixed with junk, a two car garage cabinet making shop, and two barns packed with every tool that he had ever owned, two cars- one a junker.
Before she died I convinced her to give the contents to one of the siblings that lived nearby- now it's entirely his problem. We took very few small items.
You don't get to ask a question without answering mine first. :waiting:
What's your question cupcake?
Had to sell my BIL's stuff for his widow, wife insisted on me helping....biggest sh!tstorm I ever got into. The man, whom I loved like a brother, was the WORST for car maintenance, keeping tools in shape, etc..
Then I had to broker agreements among his kids as to how things would be split up. Never again....
There, a smart dude
Yep.
The strangest thing happens when a family member dies, many of the family go nuts. I have seen this several times.
Yes, I love funerals. The family that has been distant for decades magically appears with flowers and stories.
What's your question cupcake?

I won't do that. You can repost it if you care. You're not going to change my mind; I've seen your type (suckers) many times. Over 23 years in the military, I've met thousands of men from different countries and all states. Trust me, you are a sucker, or this is a fake story. As for rehab, it has a 95% failure rate, but you'll be there for him.
This is a public forum. My opinion and character are different from all of yours. If you enjoy helping others, please do so. If you do not like to read other people's comments, then keep your private life private.

We have seen this type before.
One of the many was a coward; he killed his wife and then blew his brains out.
The other one went to prison for manslaughter.
One in the C4 section started a Go-Fund-Me for his dad, took the money, and ran.
The digital transgender from El Paso

These places are full of weirdos, but their true colors always filter through the keyboard.

No I have not met him yet I only know him from what he posts. From that you can see he is one sick individual that only attacks when he feels safe.

Because you are afraid of him. As you are afraid of the rest of us. You are a caustic, abrasive old man, hiding behind your keyboard and rattling your saber. Big ****ing Deal.
So my neighbor's progressing slowly in rehab. His voice is back to what it was, along with his odd sense of humor. Starting to walk again, albeit slowly. Really wants to get home. He's looking for a full time nurse's aid to help him when he does go home.
Thank you for the update.

You had no business going in and bothering him. He should have shot you.
 just poking at you LARS. :cert:
If everybody had neighbors like Yadkin and Lars and you and I, nobody would need locks on their doors. :cert:

Yadkin steals your keys to enter your house. He enters at night and poisons you for a slow death. Meanwhile, he'd drive your C8 Vette.
He also takes photos of you while sleeping.....Decades ago, Cartman did that to Butters...remember?

Update. His full time CNA service starts on Sunday at 2:00 pm. I have a general contractor building a ramp to his front door tomorrow. At 1:00 pm Sunday I haul him from rehab to his house.
Was there today and his daughter found a bed bug on a blanket in his room. All fabric from that place will go into the dumpster.

You should take care complete removal of all bugs and replace all that is tossed. I know this is beyond your understanding. But when you have access to someone's keys doesn’t mean you get to rent out their home and cars.:yaddy:

Bob, just stop.
He was the one that posted the water bill to see if anyone else came to the same conclusion. The owner presented the water bill to question the daily use going from very high to none at all when no one was supposed to be there. Do you use your neighbor's house and car when they are not using them? Is this considered normal behavior now and I am out of touch?:waiting:
Edit oh now it makes sense why you want to know where my homes are. :leaving:

No. Let him keep going. He's following Yadkin so close if Yaddie stops quickly Bob's nose hits Yaddie in the ass. All I have to do is look for a Yadkin thread, then glance over to the right side of the screen, and there's Big Bob, replying.

I picked him up at the nursing home today. A stop at Arby's then the drive home, partly over the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rolled him up the ramp into his house. His full time nurse rolled into the driveway about 30 seconds later, right on time. :seasix:
