They were mostly used to pump water.

Used to see them all the time around here, back in the day. Most fell apart or were taken down though.

There is one about 15 miles from here that had half the vanes off last time I went by it.

I'd like to buy a place like that but a mill is more than I can afford.

Wife has relatives on a couple farms in Nebraska with them. They still use them to pump water for livestock.

We run pumps from an underground spring and well for personal usage and a to water vegetation, crops and livestock.
Simple, cheap, easy to fix/replace and pretty much zero maintenance. I do run a heater in the cistern pump house in the colder months.

Big Bob, when he was Antfarmer2 on the other forum, shared some details about his 1938 Aeromotor windmill down at the dirt farm. Maybe you can pry some information out of him. His rural experience is legit. Dustbowl parents, etc. :seasix:
