I've done most of what I set out to do, but I'd like to go back to Europe and spend a month in the Mediterranean visiting the Greek and Italian islands like Crete and Corsica and seeing the Roman ruins while eating outrageous food. Next trip abroad will be there. But haven't flown since I retired in '21, and it sure is a blessing not having to FLY anywhere!!!

I really don’t have a bucket list. I have accomplished most I set out to do.
Chased a few dreams.
Had a few laughs.
Bought a few rounds...

What’s left at this point are pipe dreams. Things that are of interest but are beyond my budget or physical abilities.

I've always thought it would be fun to load my golf clubs up in the C5 and take the auto train down to Florida. Once there I would work my way back up the east coast playing a different course in a different state each day.

1.This is an out of the ordinary I am considering. My son works for a Livermore labs and moved to SLC a few years ago. I have not been up to visit yet but when I go, I want to go see that.

I've been to some places while traveling and did not see what the big deal was. Niagra Falls. It was nice but sure as hell was not worth the trip. I was ready to leave 10 minutes later.

Went to Livermore Ca to visit my son who now lives in SLC. He took me into town (San Francisco) and we went to the Wharf and saw some rats. :D

The Wharf was fun but I saw Alcatraz and the Golden Gate. It was okay. We're heading to Red River & Taos for a week. Nice place to relax and mosey around and not be pressed to see shit.

We're not all that far from the Grand Canyon but never been. I have a feeling it will impress me about as much as Niagra falls, so the plan will be to swing by and continue on to Las Vegas

Meet Lars. :D

I’ve been to some places while traveling too and don’t get all the excitement either. Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain National Park, Florida Keys, Venice, Istanbul, Florence, Pompeii, Barcelona, Cannes, Rome, Capri. So boring. I should just stay on my side of the tracks and drink bud light out of a can and eat frozen pizza.

What's my bucket list? It is a list of experiences yet to be had by me. The list is long, and may it keep growing. One item on the list I can share was checked off when I was a youngster in better shape than today. Our Indian Guide group stayed together through the years and did a lot of backpacking. One trip led us to the base of Half Dome in Yosemite. The next day we scaled the backside to the top-this was when you didn't need a permit, and you could camp on top. We did just that, and I recall looking up at the night sky with billions, and billions of stars while bundles up in a mummy bag. As we were preparing our site (big long saddle-shaped area up there on top), we watched two fools jump over the side. One guy's parachute opened fully, and the other guy's partially opened. He survived, barely, with help from trees.
First picture is us, the others are from search on web. Anyone else been up there?

Not the top, but I know dozens who did a BASE jump off of there.

When you say fools, you weren't kidding. A few ruined it for the rest of us jumpers.

We did the AutoTrain last November. I spent my career in the rail supply industry and always thought it would be fun to do. I’m glad we did it but I will never do it again. Could not sleep (the AT only runs overnight) due to all the bumping and jerking motions. It is not the gentle rocking that has been sold as part of the appeal. Also the engineers have to sound the horn at every at grade crossing (there are a lot of them). Even with having a bottle of scotch in the room to help me sleep it was no bueno

On the plus side, I’m sure you could find plenty of interesting courses as you work your way up the I95 corridor

I disagree on Mt. Rushmore.

If you hype yourself up like it's a "vacation destination", yeah, you're going to be disappointed. My daughter and I did it when she was moving from CA to Boston in October of 2022, and she was driving her car across the country. We did Rushmore, along with Devil's Tower, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Rock 'n' Roll museum, and other stuff like that. If I had scheduled even a couple of days for the express purpose of seeing any one of those things, I would have been VERY disappointed. But just bee-bopping along at our own pace, stopping to see stuff we had only seen in pictures or read about in the past, every stop was at least somewhat cool. Devil's Tower was a 2 hour stop, and we saw EVERYTHING there. Rushmore was about the same.

If we had planned to spend a full day at ANY of the attractions I named, yeah, we would have been bored to tears shortly after lunch.

Lots of nice places to visit in the usa. Neither of those would top my list. Look at a picture of Rushmore. Done. Little big horn. A large field. Sure I’d stop for a minute if it wasn’t too far out of the way. Did great sand dunes national park: “very large piles of sand, nothing else”. Indy in May during practice was cool I think in 78 or 79. Got to see Michael Andretti etc. What else is in Indiana.

I worked a consulting assignment in Indianapolis for several months back in 2015. After spending time there, I came to believe that city wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for that speedway.

My daughter and I got there at about 2-3 pm, did the museum, and the track tour, and really liked it. Maybe a total of 3 hours there, tops, and we saw all there was to see. It was cool seeing some of the things I had seen dozens of times on my TV! She found us a really cool brewery that had a great restaurant where we had dinner and some tasty beers. First thing in the morning, we were back on the road to the next destination.

If you're looking for more than that, you WILL be disappointed IMO.

Went there to visit an Uncle and cousin I had never met in 2017. I agree. The way the place is laid out, like a big wheel, makes it super easy to get around. And we had some killer German food at a place that had been there since 1891. It felt very safe, very midwestern, and very uneventful. My Parents are from Indiana and Michigan (c 1930) and going back to those places, it's a totally different feel than the desert of the west I grew up in and spent my life. A lot of the 'big' cities have a small town feel to me. (except Chicago and Detroit).

Do a frame off on a vehicle without interruption.

Learn to be a skilled road course driver...where I could consistently get 90-95% of what's possible out of whatever car I'm driving.

6 month to 1 year driving tour of the US. Just wandering and staying in small towns, not necessarily seeking out famed attractions. Maybe 25-30K miles, 50-100 miles/day (no, I don't have an EV). I would consider breaking it into several 6 week trips.

He had to help me get out of the passenger seat. Ask me if i wanted to drive it and i told him no. Too fast and i don't want anyone seeing him helping me out of the drivers seat. :Jeff '79:
