Laugh as you may, they're not making them anymore.

I actually have quite a few R-to-R tapes (including demos from my rock band during the 80's). No machine to play them on anymore however...

But,$2K is a bit steep

I paid that a few years ago for a totally recapped, rebuilt 909. You gotta pay to play. When I was in the Military I knew a few guys who scored one of these from the PX.

He dropped the price to 1.8k

You could buy this kit, use the shit out of it, and probably dump it for a grand profit in a couple of years. You can put Vintage Audio like this in the bank. :seasix:

Great deal, but it's currently the most expensive audio medium if you're trying to grow your library. Absolutely legendary format though - I would be all over that if I had a proper audio-only room. At the moment I'm struggling to figure out where to put my turntable after redoing my media room.

Thorens announced a couple years ago they were making a new R2R - the TM1600. And there is Metaxas too. Not sure if either of them are actually selling any though.

Companies occasionally announce they’re working on a new RTR but it always ends up as vapor ware.

My dad was an audio nerd with a nice two-deck step and all the gadgetry. But it was a few years earlier than this and not even close to this baddassery.

Mine still worked when I tossed it.

I still have one of these, works great, but haven't used it since the '80s. :(

I don't own a reel-to-reel, but I buy Ampex 1/4" tape for my two RE-201 Space Echoes. Very hard to find new tape loops for these things so I just make my own.
