Nike "Permanently" Laying Off 740 Employees At World Headquarters

US athletic footwear and apparel company Nike announced late in the cash session on Friday that it is undergoing a restructuring effort to trim costs at its World Headquarters (WHQ) located in Beaverton, Oregon.
Michele Adams, VP of People Solutions at Nike, might be the most hated person at the company this afternoon. In a letter to staff, she wrote that "approximately 740 employees at WHQ" will be "permanently" laid off by late June.
"As a result of a second phase of impacts, which will take effect by June 28, 2024, approximately 740 employees at WHQ will have been impacted by this and the recent prior permanent reduction of the workforce," Adams said.
In December, Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe said the company would reduce its global headcount by 2% as management moves forward with a cost-savings program of as much as $2 billion over the next three years.
Data from Bloomberg shows that Nike's total headcount stood at around 83,700 as of the end of 2023. The company has been dramatically hiring over the last decade and a half - those efforts appear to have just stalled.
People Solutions? More like Final Solutions

OK, even with say about 4 manufacturing plants in this nation, instead of just ONE overseas......just how many employees can it take to make underwear???
figger each plant for 6000 total worker count.....24k.......
another thousand as so called management......answering phones/etc.....
add in another thousand just for shits and grins.....250 free souls per plant.......

**** that woke company. I haven't bought Nike shoes since 1989.
And won't be buying them in the future, either.

You mean hiring for endorsement people like Colon Krapondick, Meghan Rappingho and Dylan Mulvaney didn’t propel Nike to atmospheric heights of profitability?

Out - 740 white males, white women, straight people.
In - 740 black males, black women, muslims, Hispanics, and gender neutral employees

I have refused to buy any item with the Nike swoosh on it for years and I do buy a fair amount of golf clothes, shoes etc. Thankfully our club pro shop does not stock any Nike products

Was that in Beaverton? Big Campus.
Yup. They were woke before woke was a thing
I started wearing the canvas Nikes with the blue 'swooshes' when I got my first Summer job and had my own spending money. I wore them for a while, but gravitated away from them because A) they started shooting up in price compared to other brands and (probably related) B) when they started spending yuge sums of money on endorsements. That was about the time their shoes started literally falling apart. I toss my shoes in the washer every so often, maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and that just had Nikes falling apart that were under a year old.
Happy with NB, they have wide fit, are comfortable, and last well.

I threw out my Nike golf spikes when they went woke. Nobody on my golf course will wear Nike gear. The GM of the pro shop got new shirts in and nobody was buying them. He asked my crew why and we pointed to the swoosh on the sleeves. We all told him we would rather quit the game before we would wear that crap. Two weeks later, it was all gone and replaced with shirts from Asics.

I was originally going to go with "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here," but that made the thread title too long.

Given enough time, perhaps not in our lifetimes, this nonsense will course-correct. Being woke is not sustainable. Even blue cities are starting to realize it (too late). Promoting woke values and demonizing real talent and virtue as 'racist' is a losing game. We, the makers, know this---the takers, the PHD's, etc. will know it eventually as we spiral into third world living conditions globally .

Another wide foot man. I wear 13 4E. Hard to find that size, but NB does carry them.

I have never owned any Nike shoes or other Nike products.
