Monday will mark the 50th anniversary of Bad Henry Aaron hitting his 715th HR off Al Downing of the Trolley Dodgers and breaking the all time HR record of Babe Ruth. My family watched the game on our new Heathkit color TV and we exploded when the ball cleared the fence. It was awesome.

I had the opportunity to meet Hank Aaron 20 years ago.
Speaking of Heathkit, my dad loved building kits from them. We had TVs, radios, clocks, test equipment, you name it. I learned a lot from my dad in the process. Great memories. :yesnod:

I helped my dad build the TV, we worked on it about every night for several weeks. I did all the logistical work of identifying and preparing parts for installation. It was a good learning experience.
Henry? (I've never watched baseball). I thought this thread was about Henry from the funnies in the newspaper during the 1950s +, who apparently has died, very few pix of him online.
But I did catch him in your Vette, Louie Detroit. He has no idea what a cell phone is, but this seems just as dangerous to do while driving, especially with his eyes closed.

Tied with Ernie Harwell for GOAT.
Well got to give credit when due. Mr Aaron did it legitimately. No special help or conditions, waving of rules just because he was a minority.
If that event happened today, somewhere along the line he would have been given double credit for some runs scored, just to even up things and make it right!

PED's are a greater threat to MLB than affirmative action will ever be.

Back in the late 70's, cell phones basically didn't exist. I built a Radio Shack receiver kit and added an amplifier to it. Before I took off, I called my wife and let her know the tail number and an average time frame when I would be back. We only had one car.
On my return, she would hear me talking to the tower, then head on over and by the time I was done with it all, she would show up. Worked out pretty good half the time and save me an extra hour of hanging around.

The cool thing about Louie Detroit is that he LOOKS like a kid who'd build a Heathkit radio or you'd see on the back cover of a Popular Science magazine stating "I built my own crystal set from courses through the mail in Radio by ICS!".

I bet - as a Ham - I've built more Heathkits than anyone else here
(should I brag about "having the knack"?)
Now players celebrate and showboat more after hitting a single.

I still have the old Zenith short wave chassis I listened to as a kid. From the '40's. Has the owl's eye tuner tube. Also have many old radios, Have a '40's Trans-Oceanic that stopped working about 20 years ago. Capacitor? I'm no radio builder. I used to listen to the Voice of America, listen for Coordinated Universal Time out of Greenwich, and Quito Ecuador, among others. Voices in the night from across the globe. I was 12-14 at the time.
