I'm looking for a portable compressor to keep in the car for emergencies. I've got a tire plug kit in my tool bag, but it'd probably be nice to be able to get a few lbs. of air back in there too. :D

A quick look at Amazoon shows a never ending inventory of chinesium units...not all that thrilled about that option.

What do you have/recommend/not recommend? :bigears:

You will not agree with my choice of a Harbor Freight compressor and plug kit, but I figure it is for the one time I don't want to wait for AAA. I have one in every car, and I have yet to use any of them.

I would buy from Harbor Freight over a brand on Amazon called something like "ARNCRL" or other series of random letters.

I guarantee that I use a portable compressor more than most. If you want it to actually work when you need it to work, get something decent.

Nice. My Dewalt cordless stuff is older 18V, so uses a different battery. Since it says it also runs on 12V & 120V, I assume the battery's not required?

Yes. It has a 110 and a 12v cord. 12v as you might expect takes a bit longer, but would work in an emergency. 110v and 20v work great.

I almost always use the 20v (kart tires). I've used the 20V to fill a flat on my dually and it did the job just fine on the big tire to 60psi on 1 battery.

Thanks for that. I would hopefully not be using it too often so the battery might not hold charge that long anyway. :cert:

I use the 20v Dewalt for everything and have a pile of batteries. Unused, I’ve let the batteries sit for well over a year with full charge.

I think many will make the choice based on their current battery tools.
I own Milwaukee, went with this, I keep in the garage, and take on trips.
Have owned for 4 years, still works perfect, Milwaukee makes a larger one, but this is more than adequate for all passenger tires.
The electronic gauge / display is very accurate.

Yep.

I've used the Milwaukee as well as the Rigid. Both more than capable. At the time, the DeWalt was the only one with the 12V/20V/110V flexibility which was good for what I do at the track. I'm not sure if the others do that now or not.

Regardless, don't buy a 12V Chinese garbage one if you actually want it to work when you need it to work.

Prior to buying the Milwaukee 4 years ago, I was throwing away annually shitty $25 compressors purchased at walmart, pretty certain every one was made in china.

Every one posted here, including the DeWalt and Milwaukee are made in China. Even Viair is made in China. If you could find one made in USA, I'd bet the price would make your eye twitch.

Since I own both a real compressor and a portable air tank, 12v compressors are only stored in both cars and since making sure both Harbor Freight units were not DOA, I haven't needed either one but I think they will be OK... if ever they are required.

Made in China =/= “Chinese garbage”.

Perhaps I should have clarified. Don’t buy the cheap shit off of Amazon.

I have one I bought that looks like a hand drill 6 months ago when I got my new vehicle. Put in the back and have not seen it since. Hopefully I won't.
I purchased a tire plug kit just case. If I get a flat, it should be useful. If it's a blowout, it's not.

Thing is there are people who live the kind of life and owned the sht box vehicles that always get flats, need air or a jump start using portables.

Generally, they are call teenagers but there is never a short supply of adults

Same here, I just want something to use roadside if need be.

I had to plug a tire last Saturday night, fortunately I was close to home when I got the low pressure warning so it was a non-event.
