That is absolutely true. The Aleutian Islands (part of Alaska) stick way out into the ocean, going south-west from the mainland. You can see the Russian mainland from at least one point on the islands.

Lived near both places for 11 years. The Finger Lakes are some of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Nordic skied on Lake Placid with Baby Doll, and another couple, John and Patty, friends of our when she was pregnant with their first.

Patty died of cancer about five years ago. John walked their gorgeous daughter, Jaqueline, down the isle two years ago. The reception was at the Marriott Syracuse main ballroom, first class all the way.

1977 was a great year. We went to Niagara Falls in July '76 and all through upper NY state (my first time there) for the Bicentennial. I sure miss the '70's.

Someone told me about it so I went to the website, an acre lot for $4M is the beginning of the theft.

I paid $70k and $73k for the 1/2 acre lots on either side of me just over a year ago. Both have city water and sewer. My addition was about $375/ sq. ft. Now there is a house that I could hit with a rock, asking $1.8M, and another a mile away, asking over $3M, or $945/ sq. ft.

A similar thing happened just after I built the original house in 2005. The lot was $41k; after all was done I had $360k in it. A year later less desirable lots were selling for $200k and shitty condos up the street for $480k. Then 2008 happened and nothing sold here for almost a decade.

So the cycle continues. I'm lucky to have built twice, in the trough not the peak. :yesnod:
