My Co-worked Died Suddenly Yesterday

A guy I've worked with for the last 16 years died suddenly yesterday morning. He emailed us earlier in the morning, saying he was taking PTO because he wasn't feeling well and was going to see the doctor. A few hours later we got the call that he had passed away from some sort of cardiac event. :sadangel:

Don't know for sure if he was vaxxed but the odds are pretty high that he was...

It happens. When I worked at a lumber mill there was a guy who used to carry our blades to another building for sharpening. One day he didn't make it. Fell flat on his face on the driveway between the two buildings. Not sure if any blades were damaged :leaving:

I worked with a guy who was a surveyor. One cloudless winter day, about 20F, no wind. He took a break, sat on the ground, looked up at the sky, his heart stopped and died. He was 60.

I often think of him, knowing that he died peacefully, outside, breathing clean, fresh air, doing what he loved.

Not sure, but he wasn't quite old enough to retire, so I guesstimate early 60s.

Sorry to hear.. I've been 19 years with the same company and many co-workers passed away while I've been working here.. One of them died in his sleep and he was only in his 40's.. Some kind of cardiac event.. Others had a stroke (and survived) but died years later..

Years ago I worked at a Major Electronic distribution company. One of our product managers died in the main office of a heart attack.

The company offered to give free class on CPR and heart attack first aid, which i took.

Two years later they announced they would not cover lability for you if you did this due to insurance costs ( too many assholes suing people who tried and failed to save heart attack victims in NYS) .

I kept certified but had my name removed for the list of in house first aid givers.

Left NYS a few years later.

Whether he was vaccinated or not, it's a sad situation all around. Take some time to process and lean on your colleagues for support if you need it.

Good customer went to a state wide showcase with other customers at event. Marv had a good time on opening night. Went to sleep and they had to kick hotel door down. Also had a co worker while planning to take his family and three girls on a cruise, took a shower to leave for the week and also passed away in shower. Both cardiac. Both life changing for me.

My last job was as an electrical tech for a petroleum pipeline outfit. The last important task I did was to put together a small controller to monitor alarms on a section of pipe going through a railroad tunnel in Brooklyn. Nasty spooky place - nasty enough that murder scenes for Law and Order show were filmed there. Got that up and running mid October that year. I was retiring Jan 3. I said no more New York for me. No more highly dangerous jobs. I'm taking it easy for the duration. I've heard too many stories about guys taking on a nasty job right before leaving, and getting killed. That's not going to be me. Get over it. I'll stay right in the yard here, and handle simpler things until I go. My two coworkers pissed and moaned a bit but I didn't care.

Twenty plus years ago NC passed good Samaritan law to prevent people from being held liable under circumstances like that. Came about over someone who helped after a car accident and they were sued(ambulance chasers sued everyone).
Somebody sues me if I try and save them... They won't survive the next time.

I'm sorry to hear about your coworker. I had the same situation at work. I was talking to a guy that looked like Hell, so I told him to go home. He was out a day or 2, and he called me on a Thursday saying he was feeling a bit better. I told him to just take the rest of the week off and come back fresh on Monday. He died on Saturday. I discovered from his brother at his funeral that he hadn't been to a doctor in over 20 years.

When I was i my 30s a bunch of colleagues the same age passed away suddenly, then it seems like there was a lull until I hit my late 40's then another spate of deaths occurred, now, at 73, I try not to look up old colleagues' infor because its depressing.

Very Sad indeed. I am biting my tongue now as my daughter is 23, and going through some cardiac testing.. Fatigue, needs a heart monitor. She was a swimmer, and now for recreation does boxing ( just for recreation).
I mentioned she had the moderna, only one of the 2 shots, and I told her many people are having issues with heart problems. She dismissed it completely and said no, it has to do with stress with being a Chef. Yep, sure.

Back in the early 70's, I did my high school years in a large restaurant during high school. Some serious stress involved. Hot, sweaty yelling all the time, fkd up orders, complaining. I see it as a thankless job. Does not get better until the day is over.
