Owned a 2003 Z06 for 19 years. No plans on getting rid of it.

Not much into taking pictures these days but I snagged this off the interweb. It's the spitting image of mine (including the CCW SP500 aluminum wheels). Only difference being mine has no stickers on the windshield and it sits lower. Can't even straddle a dead opossum without having to replace my air dam

I had an '82 for about three years. Detailed the crap out of it, down to the correct type screws. Fixed everything, including the computer that controls the carb and transmission lock-up. De-smogged it. New seat upholstery. Eliminated the fusible links (inaccessible on the road under the car) and replaced them with an underhood fuse panel. Upgraded the headlamps with relays and Hella ECE halogen lamps. Rebuilt the AC to take 134a. New headers and dual exhaust. Did many date nights with it, and many midweek country drives. Bought it for $16k, sold it for $23k.

Headers and exhaust was by far the most expensive, sine I hired the guy. Maybe $1500. New AC compressor and parts amazingly cheap from Rock Auto. A rebuilt computer from AutoZone was $85. I may have had $300 in electrical components. New distributor and spare module (very important to have a GM module in those). Upholstery $500. New T-top seals $150. Another $100 or so on sound deadening material under the driveway-Simple Green and hose- cleaned original carpet. I never bothered to track it all but I may have spent $4000. :D

The 2013 was the very last Big block Corvette as far as I know. In '13 I was present at a seminar in Kissimmee where this very subject was the topic. Engineers from GM were the presentators. That '13 has the last 427, factory installed by GM according to them.

After five (71, 96, 05, 06, 09) I do have an interest...but hard to spend 50-100 large on a Vette when there are so many other pieces of equipment I'd like to purchase.

Perfectly normal as we age.

I don't have any plans to sell my '07, but fast cars don't have the allure that they used to.

When/if I do sell it, I wouldn't buy any other car or spend the money on any other inanimate objects.

Back in the day, the 265/283/327/350/400 etc. had the same basic block.

Then the 396/427/454 etc. came out, different block, and were considered "big blocks."

Thus, we have the 400 "small block" and the 396 "big block," and the 427 in small or big block.

step dad has a C7 Z06 and lives a half-mile off a paved road.

A couple little problems with my situation. The road floods about four times a year leaving ruts and there’s a slope where the gravel road meets pavement.

I had my fun. Time to move on and just enjoy car shows.

No to mention, they don't even offer a manual transmission anymore.

Yes. Priorities change as we walk through life. :yesnod:

When I consider spending 50-100 large nowadays I think about a new hvac cab tractor or mini excavator.

Fact is, about 500K would set me up right for vehicles and equipment. And with that I could fit a Vette in the mix. :D

People are paying ~$100k for a Jeep, Bronco, etc.

The car market is nuts!

Before the pLandemic you could easily buy a nice Ferrari (used) for a little over $100k. No idea what they're going for now.

Actually, no. Surprisingly enough, whether it is a "big block" or a "small block" is dependent on the size of the block.

If we are talking original equipment on C3s, then yes, the 305s, 327s and 350s were small blocks, and the 427s and 454s were big blocks. It got more complicated as time went on.

In 1974, Corvettes were available with a 454 cubic inch big block engine.

Wasn't the 403 the detuned motor in the late 70's Trans Ams? Everyone wanted the Pontiac 400 v. the Oldsmobile 403, as I recall.

Yes, he does. "She's real fine my four-oh-nine."

As I recall, those engines were originally truck engines (W block?) although that doesn't mean much. You could order early-mid '60s Chevy cars with them, they also could be ordered with dual quads I think.

My high school buddy's older brother bought a new stripped '68 Nova, built a 409 with quads from the block up and dropped it in, beefing up everything else.

It was a total sleeper except for the exhaust note and big tires in the back.

It sounds like you are trying to lead me down an extremely geeky GM engine history road. This is a road that I will admit is at the very limits of my memory/knowledge. That said, the only GM "403" engine that I remember was an Oldsmobile engine that was considered a "small block" engine at the time, mostly 1950s? I even did a search, and apparently without more education on my part, I see nothing that says that a GM "403" was ever a big block.

If I am sticking to something I know, C3 Corvettes, I'll stand by what I posted above.

My mistake. 409, not 406. I recall a co-worker back in the 70s, had a 63
Impala with a 409 engine. Looked the same as the late 50s 348 block.
"W" heads (valve covers) on both.

I remember back then a high HP 409 was considered a serious contender for a good fast street car. Then the GTO came out and was followed by the other company's putting out muscle cars. The 409 lost a lot of its luster (and street races then)

One of the nicest C3’s on the planet, and you won’t share…:yaddy:

It might have been a few years ago but I haven't touched it in about 5 years. Been sitting in the garage. It needs a lot of work and I don't have the time or energy. Paint is bad, maybe 6/10. Needs new body mounts, interior and rear trailing arms. Oh, and paint. I have a 411 rear end in the shed I was going to swap in when I redid the rear. Front suspension and brakes/ brake lines all new. Aluminum rad with electric fans.

It's a 454 out of an 87 suburban, 4 bolt mains, 60 over so it's a 468. I built the engine from scratch in 2003-2004. Comp Cams 282S solid lifter, LS-6 replacement TRW pistons, GM performance parts aluminum heads. I used all top end parts in the engine rebuild.

I have an original Baldwin Motion Hood if anyone is interested.

Pics from it's glory days.

Maybe $100 per year.

Of course! It's best to go on the used tire market, there are lots of tires out there with a ton of tread left, that came off of Mustangs after they were wrecked leaving a Cars 'n' Coffee.

Can I save money by using cheap regular gas?

Absolutely, the fuel injectors blow out any particles that may accumulate so use the cheapest gas you can find.

Can I drive my Vette in the rain?

Don’t, repeat don’t drive a Vette in the rain. Pull over under an overpass if you notice a drop on the windshield. You will be rewarded by selling it for top dollar as never being driven in the rain!

I'm not driving a classic car in nutso central Florida traffic and I now want air-bags, ABS, crush zones, collision avoidance and cameras. It was time to let them go for crazy money to grateful collectors. I don't do garage queens.

Me neither! I got rid of my 15 Vette (Avatar picture) a few years ago.

As far as a pick up truck/suv from GM no way I had way too many problems with my last 3. I did not leave GM they left me! Never say never but if looking for something new, GM is on the bottom of my to look at list!

Replacing a speaker in the C5. I replaced it with a stock one, but I sure wish it were easier to upgrade speakers in these cars.

Still working on dialing-in fuel and tracking-down the infamous "service electrical system" mssg. Should be going on the dyno second week of June.
Stroker forged 408ci twin turbo thru a built 6l80e/yank combo.
Boost controlled via Cortex for now. Prolly go to a Haltech or something similar down the road.
Gonna be one quick sleeper street car that takes corners well.

That's hideous. What are the small round things on the quarter panel?

On closer inspection, it appears to be a 3-ball, an 8-ball, and a 6-ball. But it looks as if they are actually protruding from the surface. WTF?

Define "easier." It's pretty darn easy brother. The C5 and C6 are damn close, and the C6 speaker swap can be done in under 10 minutes (if going OEM). There are several adapters available for running aftermarket drivers.
