So I am driving back home at the end of may with a friend of mine who is flying in.

The drive is from Edmonton Alberta to Toronto Ontario. Roughly 3600kms.
We are driving my 2002 Ford expedition with 220 000 kms on it and hasn't given me any trouble and runs real well.

I am changing the oil on the weekend(Mobil 1 pure synthetic), replacing the thermostat, replacing the air filter, checking the spare and all tires.

I have an emergency roadside kit with flares, cellphones, gps, and CAA(auto club has been informed). They are sending me maps with information like gas stations, restaurants and hotels.

I was thinking of putting some gas in a jeri-can but don't want to stink up the truck. So I was thinking of strapping it to the outside of the back door or on the roof.

I've never done a long trip like this so I don't really know what I'm in for.
Oh and the best thing is my buddy is a mechanic which should help a bit if needed.

Snacks for the road and the motel room. These snacks must represent the four food groups. Salt, Sugar, Fat and Alcohol. Tip: String Cheese can cover both the Salt and Fat groups. Of course, do not use the Alcohol until the driving is done for the day.

Have a safe and fun trip!

We drove across the US a coupla years ago.
From Atlanta GA. to San Fransisco, down to LA, and back across the Southern US.
Trip of a lifetime, on the road for almost a month.
We had a blast. Find a town that we liked stay 2-3 days, move on.
Sounds like you have everything in order.
Snacks are a must.
Ditto for a coupla rolls of toilet paper. You never know.
Beef jerky.

Have a great trip.

Plan your hotels, have some snacks and a cooler within reach for water and some soft drinks. Maybe a tire plug kit and 12v cig lighter tire pump. You are way over planned for any trip I've ever done. Most important thing is to bring a car charger for your cell phone.

I think strapping a gas can to your bumper is a DOT violation.

Edit. If it is still bad snow there, bring a shovel and lots of warm clothes. Snow proof boots and extra socks in case your feet do get wet. Sleeping bags rated for the expected temps could be good also. Last bit of advice is to have a few MRE's if the weather or roads are really bad.

shyte paper and baby wipes. When you start to get tired, you can always use a wipe to clean your junk / face to make you feel better.

Nothing worse than a long trip with greasy nuts or bung.

Don't forget water for you and the truck.

10mm won't save him from the big ass bear that's gonna eat him when he breaks down. Said bear will drink all the beer, so he might as well just make it a six pack to cut down on expenses.:leaving:

Right. I forgot a couple rolls of TP.

I love my coffee also, but want to try and stay away from it because it makes want to go the washroom.

Maybe I will substitute with with some coffe crisps and other candies.

Anybody know about a product called water wetter?
I'm wondering if I can put some in older coolant or if I have to drain the system first.

A few of my racing buddies use the water wetter and swear by it, but I can't see why you would need it. It is sold at most any auto parts place here in the states and according to the guys that use it, it will drop your water temp. Just me, but depending on what you are changing in your cooling system, I would probably mix it with some fresh coolant. You are far enough north that I can't see you having to use it though.

This 10mm should stop the bear from stealing his beer.

I did that drive twice (but to Calgary from Toronto and vice versa), the last time I did was 10 years ago in my 1987 5.0L LX in mid December, took me 36 hours, by myself.

Bring an air compressor and the tire goop shit, lots of snacks and pop, blanket, pillow and above all, lots of good music.

TP

Safe trip dood.

I have a couple large cans of that tire goop shit, a mini compressor with a car booster on it.

I've done 7-8 cross country trips. Here's what I carry in addition to your list.

Wet wipes or baby wipes
Roll of paper towels
Gallon of water. Can be used for the car or by you.
Jug of coolant, Qt of oil, and power steering fluid.
Jumper cables
Tire pump (the kind you plug into your lighter, $15.00 ) and a tire gauge
Fix a flat
Duct tape
Multi-tool
Trash bag
Camera so you can post photos for us to see :D

Medium sized cooler for drinks and snacks. 2 days before leaving take 4-6 16 oz. bottles of water and freeze them. First day they'll cool everything in the cooler. Second day you can drink them. Second day you can get ice from the motel.

Lots of snacks and good music.

Always gas up before it gets to 1/4 of a tank. You don't want to be low on gas and get stuck in a tie-up.

Have fun! :seeya:

I'm one of the lucky ones who has never really had any issue with the T.O cops or the OPP.

I was caught doing 120 in a 60 zone. I thought I was done for, and this is in Scarborough(ghetto). LOL!
Guy let me go after a 5 minute lecture. There was a $50 missing from my drivers liscence wallet. But, that's what it was there for.

Hey Kingpin, T.O. dude......It's MUDGE. not midge!:D
I've crossed our beautiful country a couple of times on road trips, and, in very old cars. Couple things.....be prepared for a whole day of boredom crossing the prairies, and when you get to the Ontario border and think your home, your not! You have another 1000 miles to go and our "national" highway is severely lacking through northern Ontario. Thunderbay-Sue ST. Marie area....two lanes sometimes, and rock slides to watch out for, and.... dangerous drunken natives.......! Ask me how I know? Have a great trip! Every Canadian should see and experience just how vast our country is! :D
