Well, on the way home tonight Bambi tried to commit suicide. I was on a little two lane backroad (Hogan Rd for the locals) and out of the corner of my eye I saw her coming. Luckily I was only running 30 mph. I slammed on the brakes and was almost stopped when I made impact. She was full grown so the car caught her at just the right angle to roll her up onto the hood with her legs pointing out and then up. When I came to a stop she slid off into the street, rolled over a couple of times, jumped up and ran away. Left a little deer fur, poop and snot, a large scuffed area in the center that should clean up and one hoof mark on the right side of the hood. Not sure all of it will come out, but it could have been a lot worse. If I had been going faster she would have traveled over the hood and into the windshield.

Was hoping it wasn’t a Vette. I was just one second lucky in Hope Valley CA from doing the same. Hope repairs go well for you.

Sure, why the Hell not?
The C4 held up pretty good. 👍
Most of that will buff out, but as you can see there are a few deep scars on the paint. Coulda been a lot worse though!:yesnod:
Sorry to hear that. I don't know what kind of deer you have in TN, but the white-tailed deer we have around here are remarkably stupid animals. :yesnod:

Glad it wasn't worse :seasix:
I don't have to worry about that with my '77 as it's already "predistastered".
My stepdad ( previous owner) hit a deer with the '77 and he said you couldn't tell the difference between the fiberglass and the deer hair. :banghead:

It was that time of day when they're on the move. I live in a rural wooded area. Seen lots of them around here. I've had to stop more than once to let them cross the road. This one came out of the woods off a shoulder in a curve. Didn't see her until she was already in the lane headed towards me.

My 2017 Tacoma in April 2018, had 6-8k miles on it. Bright sunny afternoon, about a mile away from home. I was doing about 50 and two deer ran across in front of me, I hit the second one -- it splattered her all over, instant death. Nary a scratch for me.
It was a doe and I gave her an abortion. The deputy, who I know, noticed the fetus on the road among all the guts and said: "Well there's another deer I won't have to make an accident report on."
$11,400 in damage. My buddy, who fixed it, said if the passenger airbag had gone off they probably would have totaled it. Truck looked and drove perfectly after he finished it, I traded it in October 2022.
If I was in the Corvette it probably would have hit and went through the windshield. Somebody told me a story about that happening, and said the deer was still alive and kicking all over, but he didn't get hurt much, luckily.

Wow, lots of damage for the air bag to have not gone off. Truck did a good job of protecting its occupant. :hurray:

I don't think the airbag would be active unless someone was sitting on the seat.
How you been? :cert:

Those critters are the main reason my Vette doesn't have a lot of mileage. I avoid driving outside of town at night and I'm a day sleeper. Travel a mile in any direction and I'm in deer country.

Yep, I rarely drive my Vette at night either -- for that reason. I am, literally, right in the middle of deer country.
My house is where the red dot is, ha. I hit the deer where the road is towards the upper right corner. Picture was taken from my BIL's plane on Christmas day, 2006.

Ahh, misread your post - did the driver's airbag go off?
Doing good; staying out of the cold until the "heat wave" (mid-20's) arrives next week. Time to hunker down.

Driver's: no. I'm trying to think back, and I think the only reason it didn't is because the deer hit to the right of center.
Yeah, winter hasn't hit here yet, but it will this coming week.
Mazda has 8,300 miles on it. No problems except the backup camera doesn't always work. It goes in streaks: Works all the time for weeks, then is intermittent or doesn't work a week or two. Being old I don't really need it, I'm used to backing up with mirrors, but the camera is nice to have once you get used to it.
I hate the dealer where I bought it and will never go back there, and the next closest one is 25-30 miles away, south end of Rochester where I don't have any other reason to go, so I haven't yet.

My house is in the lower edge of the little neighborhood in the center. The wooded area to the upper left and lower right are both hunting areas. About three miles.to the right is Chickamauga Battlefield Military Park, 10k acres of woods where hunting is forbidden. Lots of deer and other forest dwelling critters include coyotes. I hear them at night quite often.
Lotta coyotes around here too. Last summer on one of those hot nights I was on the porch in my lounge, and they started howling right across my creek in the woods, maybe less than 100’ away. It was a bit creepy.
I hear hoot and screech owls a lot too, not far away. Ever hear a red fox? They can sound like a little girl being murdered. Really creepy.
Sorry for derailing your thread. :(
I drive country roads every day and I'm always on the lookout, especially this time of year. Actually surprised I haven't hit one already. I did hit a turkey a few years ago...ole Tom sure busted up the grill on my truck. :Jeff '79:

Meh, it's a car....good thing you didn't get injured!
Sorry to see that OP. As a person that lives in a area with more deer than people I know a lot of deer crash and super close call stories.
This concerns a Vette driving down the back way into Carlisle for the big Vette show. I was following a real nice C4 and he hit a deer solid, crossing the road. A couple seconds more and that would have been my Vette hit.(brand new 05 Vert) It was a bad hit and did a lot of damage, but no people hurt!
The time was about 5 AM, I stopped gave assistance and as no one had a cell phone I continued into the fair grounds. There was a cop by the gate so I gave him the info and he radioed it in.

Don’t know if they are stupid but they do have their own senses. They are not phased by vehicles. You can drive right by one in your truck or tractor or UTV. But step out of the vehicle and walk and they scrutinize your every move.
I love the damn things they are all over my property. I can sit and watch them for hours.

Wow, definitely lucky that the damage wasn’t more than that, and most importantly you weren’t injured

Many years ago (25-ish) there was a movement to allow hunters to get deer tags to thin out the exploded deer population of Angel Island in the SF Bay. It would have been a win-win....the island was overcrowded with deer, and Bay Area hunters normally had to drive for hours to hunt a crowded forest. But of course, local anti-hunting and anti-gun groups protested, so at great taxpayer expense, 700 deer were tagged and transported up to Alturas county, where they were released into the wild. Within a short time, all 700 had been hit by cars or trucks, as on Angel Island, there were NO vehicles.
So it ended up a complete waste. Lost meat, taxpayer money, and injured people and damaged vehicles. The government at its finest.

We have them right in our yard, maybe 50 yards away from the house on the other side of some trees. The first time my wife heard them she freaked out. I had to find a sound file on the internet to show her what the noise was coming from.

I did the same thing some years ago (checked online) wasn't sure what it was. As I recall, it is female foxes in heat, lol. One hot night last summer, bedroom window was open, and one was screaming very close by.
She went on so long I had to close the window, but I could still hear her. Overall it must have been 15-20 minutes. I live down in a hole so sounds here are amplified more than you can imagine. Especially on clear still nights.
