Taycan is an impressive car. Congrats to Porsche. Car is more than twice the price of a Plaid though..
Can't wait for the Tesla Roadster to be released to see how it will match up.

The Porsche when decently equipped is obscenely priced. I can afford but choose not to out of principal. I like the hummer ev, but while I will spend maybe 140 or so on my eray, will unlikely spend north of 100 in an electric ‘station car’.
My 2 bits.

I have always liked the Taycan and you can get one for under $100k but the cheaper version is slow. The Turbo S version is out of my price range and doesn't have enough space for my need, so I'm out. I can go $150k on a car but that's about my limit. Doesn't change the fact that I'm a huge fan of the Taycan. Porsche did a great job on that car and it is one of the best looking EVs.
I have nothing bad to say about it. Porsche consistently makes great cars.

I'd love an extra 200K to spend right now. It surely would not be an electric car. I don't care how fast or cool looking it is.

1 of those I'd like in the garage. Considered it many times.
The other... not a chance. I don't give a shit if it is faster than the S. It's hideous.
If Porsche could do something about the abysmal range, I'd likely be in.

I would have already had 1 (or an Audi) if they could eek about 50-60 more "real world" miles out of it

if you want great range, the only real option is the $180k Lucid Air. Real World range around 400 miles.

Not sure where you're getting $180k.
The $90k Air Touring is 400+ miles (not real world).
What I have considered is the $115k Grand Touring with 516 advertised (somewhere over 400 real world).
The higher priced (stupid fast) models are back in the 400s for advertised range. I couldn't give a crap less about the 1/4 mile times as long as it's fast enough to be fun. If I want to go drag race, I'll go buy a drag car.
I care about the daily drive.

I may have recalled incorrectly but I remember that the ones with the 500+ mile range were much more expensive. Looks like a massive price drop.
Here is an article from 2022. The longest range version was $179k

200K will buy me a nice side by side (JD 865 diesel) = 30K.
A larger HVAC tractor (JD 4075 or 5075) = 70K.
And either a skid-steer (JD or Bobcat) or mini-X (JD or Kubota) or medium duty truck (F550 or F650 chassis cab and steel dump body).
Make it a cool half million and I would have all noted plus a nice deck over trailer. :cert:

Love the Taycan, it's a beautiful car with amazing charging speeds. It's the car that beat the record for the EV Cannonball. I would never spend that much money for a car, but if someone gave it to me I would keep it until the warranty ran out.

The Porsche family sedan still looks 100x better than the Tesla. Agree that a bit over 200 miles range is terrible for the car, but it is a virtue signaling car, much like those cheap Maserati vehicles over the past 5 years.

Signaling to who? I'd want one for a single very simple reason. I like them. Not for anybody else. As I say it, it may very well explain why the Tesla "marketing" thing annoys me so much. Buying something because someone else tells me I should isn't going to happen. Ever. I genuinely don't give a crap what anybody else thinks of my choice of car.
And yes, on that same note, I don't believe that anybody else should care whether or not I like theirs.

So, let's say your neighbor gets one and they take you for a drive and show you some of the features. So, you wouldn't consider a car based on that?
I was happy with my Model Y and CF member Nosferatu got a Plaid and texted me if I wanted to check it out. Of course I said yes and he took me for a ride, showing off the insane acceleration. This was enough to get me hooked and I ordered a Plaid. Unlike him, I got the X as I need more space and towing ability. I had no plans to buy one before taking a ride in one. The experience was enough for me to pull the trigger.

I drove a Hummer EV that a friend bought for just that reason. I've also driven multiple Teslas, 1 of which being a Model S plaid. Gathering information is very different than someone giving me a sales pitch and telling me how great it is...
The difference between Tesla and every other 1 out there is exactly that. The guy that let me drive the Hummer didn't tell me how great it was or even what he liked. It was quite the opposite actually. He asked me what I thought about it. Every time I have been in a Tesla, even as a passenger, I felt like I was with a salesman. For whatever reason, you all seem to have some uncontrollable need to tell everybody how great you think it is. Add that to the cult like love of everything Elon that accompanies an overwhelming majority of owners... and I'm out.
Well, that and I can't stand driving them. I don't care how quickly they accelerate, they truly are the most boring thing that has ever existed.

I don't find insane acceleration boring but everyone has different likes.
I've driven race cars in a straight line and on road courses my whole life. I’ve ridden a ton of brutally fast motorcycles (if you want acceleration in a street vehicle, try launching a 220+ hp Aprilia RSV4 sometime…). I've done catapult launches off of an aircraft carrier. I guess everyone has different scales but after about the gazillionth (or 2nd) time, there isn't anything exciting about it.
I'd much rather rip a <200hp Miata around a road course. Hell, a 21hp X30 go kart is infinitely more fun.
"Insane acceleration" for a few seconds doesn't make up for an otherwise sleep inducing experience. The problem is that it does absolutely nothing else. It's certainly not what I want in a "fun" car. By comparison, the others that I have looked at all do SOMETHING well.
The Hummer is a very nice drive by big SUV standards, the Lucid is a great ride with a premium luxury car feel, the Audi actually feels like a luxury sports sedan should. I admittedly haven't driven the Porsche (yet) but everything I have heard says that it drives like... a Porsche.

We all like different things. The Model X Plaid has a fully adjustable air suspension, so, the ride on road trips is smooth as silk. It's amazingly quiet. While I miss the sound going down the track, going 80 on the highway and hearing just a faint wind noise is great. When we left for our 2800 mile road trip, kids were in their PJs when we left and slept for the first few hours. Autopilot is extrmely reliable and most of the trip, I let autopilot do the driving. Never arrived that relaxed with any gas vehicle. I understand that some people like buttons but when I had cars with many buttons, I didn't even know what half of them did. I love seeing in clear english on the screen what I'm activating. Sound system on Teslas is amazingly good for a factory system. Seats are fully adjustable and very comfortable. Yes, the interior looks spartanic but it works for me. I'm a gadget guy who always has the latest smartphone and Teslas are a gadget with wheels. I get it, not everyone is into that.
Exterior looks plain but I don't see anything ugly about it. Not an exciting car to look at but not ugly. Obviously, a SUV will never look as good as a sports car.
I buy cars based on what I want and what I need. The MX Plaid checks all those boxes FOR ME. I was able to easily afford it, so, why not? Almost 19 months of enjoyment so far.

In general, good ladybugs have a round, dome-shaped body with bright colors, such as red or orange, and black spots. Bad ladybugs, on the other hand, may have a more elongated body and may not have the same bright colors and distinctive spots.May 30, 2019
