Imagine spending $200k to $300k on the Demon, gutting it and still getting spanked by a $90k Plaid..

If you could get the Demon at MSRP ($120k), it would be a cool car to own but you can't get one anywhere close to MSRP.. $100k is the minimum mark up I have seen.

Why is Dodge $300K, I thought those on list get them for $100K?
That is akin to saying C8Z is $225K.
Why is plaid S $90K, I thought most sold for $140K?
I have seen Hellcats / Demons / Redeyes at that plaid's MPH with a tune, pulley and DRs.
I bet the driver's 13-year old daughter cab replicate his times.
I bet very few ev drivers can get an ICE down the dragstrip without shitting their pants, or hitting a wall.

One guy on Corvetteforum was on the list and they wanted a gigantic mark up.
Scumbag Stealerships. Even if I didn't like Tesla, I would still buy Tesla to avoid all the Stealership games, fake prices etc.
Plaid prices have dropped due to dropping demand which was caused by high interest rates. In order to move the cars, they had to drop the prices.
I used to race a low 9 Second Vette before the Plaid. My suspension was set up correctly, so I usually had no traction problems. It was no different than taking the Plaid down the track. The only real difference was the high speed swaying due to the low pressure in the bias ply tires on my Race Vette.

My MSRP was $126490 and now it is $94990.
However, I got $59500 for my Model Y as trade which would get me $30000 in trade right now AND I would have to pay about 7% interest on my loan instead of the 3.75% I'm paying, so, for me it is a wash. Had I waited, I would have maybe spent $5k less (net cost after trade) but would have to pay almost twice the interest rate.
If I didn't have a trade, I would have been royally screwed.

My little rimfire .22 rifle will easily beat the plaid in the 1/4 mile. The bullet will get there well before the plaid, and the rifle only cost $600. Same thing as the toaster racing a car. Speed is speed, right?

Are you doing your math with little yellow pads nearby??
My math is based on verifiable facts.
1) FACT: I got $59500 in trade for my 2021 Model Y Long Range with 26500 miles
FACT: Tesla currently pays between $28k and $33k for a 2021 Model Y Long Range as trade
2) FACT: Interest rate right now is aroung 7%
FACT: Interest rate I'm paying is 3.75%
3) FACT: I paid $137k after options, destination charge and tax
FACT: Same setup right now is $97990 + $1390 destination charge + $4400 tax (after trade in) would be $103780. $137000 - 103780 = $33220.
Trade in difference was about $30000. So, total money spent (net cost of vehicle) had I waited would be $3220 LESS.
Now, over the term of the loan, I'd certainly save close to that in interest.
That's all 100% fact based. What matters is what the car cost me and what it would have cost me had I waited for the price drop. It's basically a wash based on all facts considered for my personal situation. If you have an issue with my numbers, please let me know which of my numbers is not accurate.
As I said, if I wouldn't have had a trade, things would have been different but I traded my car at the PEAK of the used car craze.

That's what I always thought for years now as a rebuttal like WGAS? If you really want to go fast, build a rocket ship.
But a rifle is a much better comparison as it's much faster and MUCH cheaper.
I bet my Remington 700 .308 will beat any Plaid out of the hole, 1/4 mile, or one mile. Not even close. And my rifle looks better than the Plaid, and my bone-stock C6 looks better than any of them. :hurray:

If you think that there is anything boring about 0 - 60 in 2 seconds, then you have never experienced it.
This one is not a Demon or Scat Pack, just a 50th Anniversary hemi but it got destroyed off the line by a Prius a couple years ago. That instant torque on those EVs is pretty amazing.
FYI, it only lasted about 50 feet for him but I'm sure he felt good at the time.

Stereotyping any? The belief that EV owners are Liberal snowflakes is absurd. I'm on Plaid related facebook groups and most of Plaid owners own other fast gas cars and are car guys and the majority is not Liberal. Maybe the typical Nissan Leaf owner may fit the Stereotype but not a group of people owning a 6 figure performance EV.

Stereotypes are bullshit. Most Plaid owners are Performance Vehicle enthusiasts and usually have more than one vehicle. Look at Gearhead Brooks Weisblat of Drag Times. He has a Ferrari SF90, a Lambo Huracan EVO and many other toys and he loves his Plaid. Most Plaid owners are actually conservative leaning, at least the ones outside of California.

Who gives a flying **** if a Tesla is faster than the Demon? It's an absolutely souless appliance, and yes, I've driven one.

I don't care how quick it is. It's not a performance car if it doesn't sound mean as hell on the starting line, pumping out noxious unburned hydrocarbons while waiting for the light. Be it a 440 Road Runner with a purple cam or an LS6 Chevelle or a Mustang with a 429 side oiler. Whatever your preference, if it doesn't make everything around it shake when it idles, it is an appliance - not a performance car.

I doubt what you say, as I think most plaid owners would have a very difficult task getting a C6 / C7 manual down the track.
I think most car enthusiast, especially those who go fast often, feel the evS are not engaging, not challenging, not an accomplishment to brag on, especially when a very limited skills driver can replicate the times at a strip.
I have meet Brooks many times since late 2000s at Top Gun Mile, good dood, I bet his fun drives on weekends are never in an ev.

GUYS! I was able to cut 3 minutes off my time this morning! I put away the shaving brush and straight razor and got out the Norelco Electric and BAM. Pushed a button and ran it around my face and head while I took a crap and DONE! That Norelco is BADASS! And you have to hold it 'just right' to get it to work right, so the skill level is close to the straight razor. And it's every bit as risky, edgy, and exciting. I'm going to try an electric coffee grinder next. I am STOKED!

I have raced all types of cars down the drag strip. Half of them with stick shift. Yes, it takes more skill to launch and drive a stick car down the track. However, maybe 10% or less of the cars at the track are stick cars. EVs and gas auto cars are pretty much the same to take down the drag strip. Every modern Porsche, McLaren and Lambo have launch control and you can launch them just as easy as launching a Tesla. Automatic vs. EV requires the same level of skill while stick shift requires more skill.

So, if a nitrous car races a non nitrous car, they are nkt in the same class, right?
How about an E85 car and a car running 93 octane? What about Supercharger?
Is a turbo car in the same class as a twin turbo car?
Drag Racing is about CARS of all types going down the track. In addition to people tuning their cars, Test&Tune nights have the purpose of measuring your street car against other street cars, modded or unmodded instead of illegally doing so on the street.
For professional heads up racing, there are narrowly defined classes where only cars meeting the requirements for the particular class are permitted to race.
Test&Tune or "Street Night" etc. at the Drag Strip is about race what you bring against each other and do it legally. It doesn't matter what technology each car has or what mods. Faster car to the finish line wins.

For a guy who raced under NHRA you seemed to not understand Test and Tune. You test and tune for class qualification and consistant time.

Consistent times only matter in bracket classes. I'm a frequent flier and most cars at Test&Tune are street cars and racers that never enter any events. They go to the track to measure themselves with others so they can LEGALLY do it instead of doing it at the street or Mexico. On an average Test&Tune, you have probably 80 to 90% street cars that come to measure themselves with others. At Bradenton, lanes 1 to 4 are usually street cars, 5 and 6 for Cars on drag radials or slicks with pro tree (they do allow fast street tire cars in those lanes as well) and lanes 7 to 10 are for pro's (9 and 10 are No Time). Typically, you have like 100 cars in lanes 1 to 4, 10 to 20 cars in lane 5 and 6 and maybe 10 cars in the Pro lanes
Lane 1 to 4 and some in 5 and 6 only go there to race other fast cars.

The problem is that is all he wants to talk about...what car Tesla beat today. No issue that Tesla is a fast car but Jesus H Christ, he has to give it up. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.
I know it’s weird but the last time I saw a thread I wasn’t remotely interested in, I made a conscious decision to simply not click on it. :funny:

There is always something faster at the track. Those are purpose built race cars on slicks
Would be a shame if they wouldn't be faster

Imagine spending $200k to $300k on the Demon, gutting it and still getting spanked by a $90k Plaid..

fit the Stereotype but not a group of people owning a 6 figure performance EV.
So which is it? A 90k car or six figures?

Model S Plaid is under 6 figures unless they get FSD.
Model X Plaid after destination charge and sales tax is over $100k in most states. Only 2 or 3 states don't have sales tax on cars. New Jersey and Montana I believe.
My Model X with my specs is $104k or so in Florida.
A base Model S Plaid is $89k plus tax and destination charge. $96k total or so..
Model X Plaid base price is $5k higher than Model S Plaid.
