Anyone here have a drone? I want one but I don't want to spend more than $200. Anyone have one that works well at that price point?

What do you want to do with it? Fly around your house or yard never leaving your sight? Shoot good video? Want a live feed so you don't need to actually see it?

Just to fly around my property (12 acres) always in my sight (hopefully). I'd prefer pretty good video. Live feed would be ideal if that fits in the budget.
Thanks!!

The only people within drone distance from my house are older relatives so no creepy behavior planned.

$200 will not get you good video if you want HD or better. $200 gets you a high end toy drone. Fun to fly and see some small frame video.

New neighbors two doors down had one. Flew it over my next door neighbor’s house. Once. Lesson learned. You do not fly those things over private property. They seem cool to me but I can understand privacy concerns and also would get bored.

Go on FB marketplace or EBay. Find a DJI Mavic at least. Mavic Pro would be better. You can get a quality used drone at that price. Drones are worse than RVs as far as devaluation.

Don't forget, you have to register and license most drones with the FAA, now, too. That also means online courses :yesnod:

I had one for a few minutes. Tip read the directions first.:seasix:
I have a DJ Mavic mini, which is I think the best one you can get that doesn't require a license to operate.
What a bullshit law here any drone over 250 grams you need a license to operate. The DJ Mini is 249 grams.
I've barely used it though....it's fun for a few minutes...

Nope. $200 will get you a toy. That's fine if it's what you want, but a real drone that works well will cost you 5 or 10 times that amount.

I’ve a DJI Phantom 3, haven’t used in 3+ yrs. Novelty wears off quickly

Nope, I lucked out bigtime. Got an inexpensive stainless exhaust system manufactured in the Philippines rather than one of those expensive name brand systems that so many others were having drone problems with. Super happy with it, sounds great :D

Yep, I didn't go as spendy but I haven't touched my drone in a couple years. I have more hours on a cheap syma drone with a gyroscopic wiimote type controller I think I got forever ago for $25 or so

I have one. Tried to fly it in my backyard. The damn thing headed over the back wall and out in to traffic. I had to get in my truck and go find it. Now it sits in the box.

Too high tech for me, I will stick with lawn darts and water balloons.

I use mine for work and play. So I keep pretty active. I also am part 107 licensed- which you only need if you plan to use yours for a business. I recommend DJI as its software will keep the guys in black SUVs saying you flew in restricted airspace.

I have a Mavic Pro Platinum. I used to fly it a lot until it got stuck in a 90' pine tree. I did get the drone back but now I'm afraid to fly it. :funniest:

Did you turn off avoidance in the software ? I have the Platinum as well. It does a great job of stopping before hitting something.
Just got a DJI Mini Pro 4.
Haven't flown it yet.
I'm saving up for an MQ-9:

A few of you, and y'all know who you are, should probably start being a LOT nicer to me going forward. Just sayin'.
[note to law enforcement: It's a joke. It's just for fun. No actual ill intent or malice intended. It's a joke. And you already know I can't afford one anyway]

I think 5 is close. There are some hobby level ones in the $700 range now but not much less.

There is no obstacle avoidance on the sides or top. The drone was flying sideways at the time (making a big circle around a central point of interest).

Noted. I will say the #1 mistake most drone pilots make is : watching the camera feed and not the drone.
Part 107 actually states that the drone must be in visual site at all times. So in reality to fly properly is a 2 man team. One to watch the drone and one to do the actual job. Amazon has been lobbying to get rid of that piece so they can roll out drone deliveries.

I also am a part 107 drone pilot. I have 10 drones.
My first drone was 60 bux ready to fly ... or ready to crash would be better.
My second drone though was a hubsan 501 ... GREAT drone ... it has gps and other features - it was about 160 then but still can be had NEW for 100 bucks. It is a great easy to fly learning drone and if you wanted to experiment yet still shoot REASONABLE video and pics this will do it for you.
To get really good video I'd recommend going up to a Mavic Mini . You can get a renewed original mini on amazon for 340 or so. This drone is very small, super easy to fly, and would allow you to even use special software on your computer to pre plan flight routes and auto-execute those.
